Problem with the LOTR is the dated writing style, quite dense and not easy to dive into. The Hobbit is far more accessible for modern readers. I read those books enforced by mum when I was around 9-10 and it was just too boring for me. Those books were so boring that I later ignored the movies and actually never saw them, so the insistance really backfired instead Usually younger guys are more into Lord of the Rings. Never heard of "my mom made me read Lord of the Rings". I enjoyed them, but did find some sections tedious with the writing style and too much detail.

It was never dead boring, but it wasn't very exciting most of the time. But it probably has a lot to do with me having seen the films before and had them read to me when I was younger, and so I knew most of what was going to happen. Didn't have a problem with the language as it's basically the same as ASoIAF except British instead of American. Had a lot more of a problem with the way Bilbo was written. I thought it was written in a bit of a childish way.

It's a weather forum. Shouldn't we be kinda nerdy? Most certainly NOT! Being knowledgable about the weather does not make you a nerdkunt, because to a be a nerdkunt, you need to obsess over or perhaps even base your life upon fictional "pop culture"—comics, video games, Anime gayshit and so forth. Being a nerdkunt means that you have no life and that said "life" is comprised of only pop culture nonsense; minimal reality experience, so to speak. Only Schlommo, Baba and perhaps a few others are proper nerdkunts here; think keyboard warrior, Wikipedia patroller etc. Weather enthusiast is not even remotely close to that nasty lot! The weather is a real life matter, and if you've ever been to Aussie country towns, the weather is a chief topic amongst the townsmen.

LoTR is great, I've read them all several times. Probably my favorite books.
I read adventure/survival books sometimes but I usually find most books pretty boring, I’d rather spend 2 hours watching a movie then 2 weeks reading a book.

But it's BABA Expressing a train of thought requiring more than two braincells is apparently being a nerdkunt. I wish I weren't a nerdkunt, like you aren't.

So what? Baba is one of ours, and such attacks are totally uncalled for. Yeah he do has some stupid ideas, but so what.

Fair enough, then.

I'm reading the way of kings, the first book of Stormlight Archives. About 50 pages left. It's well written, and in writing style it's like a mix between Kingkiller Chronicles and Game of Thrones. A slightly grander world, but kingkiller was a page turner from the very first page. Stormlight took about 500 pages before it was truly page turning. Damn though. One chapter I read yesterday has got to be theeeeee most nose-to-the-book-gripping chapter I've ever seen. Amazing climax.

My textbooks at the moment.
Probably something else after my exams though, most likely picking up Game of Thrones again. After that though, I'm at a loss.

Fahrenheit 451. Still relevant today. I have that in my collection, need to get around to reading it. Same with A Brave New World.

Started reading the Malazan book of the fallen. Pretty good and interesting. Language was very difficult in the beginning, but it seems the author depleted his fancy vocabulary in the first chapter.
Don't have as much of a reading urge anymore. Don't think it's the book's fault though as I like the book. However, in weeks I've only read like 350 pages. That would only take two days a couple months ago.

I started the third book in the Malazan series yesterday. The first two books were a bit slow apart from the last 200 or so pages of each book, but after the exciting end of the last book, the third book started just as enthralling, and it's kept its level of excitement throughout the 250 pages I've read since.
It's a 10 book series, so it took a while to get to know all the different characters and the world and its mechanisms, but now I've started to get the hang of it, and it's pretty captivating right now because one of my favorite characters has just inadvertently, against his will started to become a god.

I like to read books about "weird stuff" like the paranormal, near death experiences, OBE's etc..
I'm currently reading "The Ultimate Journey" by Robert Monroe - who did some comprehensive studies on Out of Body Experiences and states of conciousness.
TBH it's a bit of a frustrating read. Very esoteric and a bit fanciful really, seems like a lot of "mental masturbation" to me.

"Media ja populismi". I bought this at the book fair and talked to the authors. Seems interesting enough.

The Dark Forest by Liu Cixin. Chinese sci-fi full of interesting science, pleasantly surprised.
