A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World, written by Charlie Fletcher. A Boy and his Dog at the End of the World is the most moving story you'll read this year. Perfect for readers of Life of Pi, The Girl With All the Gifts or Station Eleven - Griz's tale mixes sadness and hope in one unforgettable character's journey to retrieve a stolen dog, amid the ruins of our fragile world The world has ended. At least we still have dogs. "My name's Griz. My childhood wasn't like yours. I've never been to school, I've never had friends, in my whole life I've not met enough people to play a game of football. My parents told me how crowded the world used to be, before all the people went away, but we were never lonely on our remote island. We had each other, and our dogs. Then the thief came. He told stories of the deserted towns and cities beyond our horizons. I liked him - until I woke to find he had stolen my dog. So I chased him out into the ruins of the world. I just want to get my dog back, but I found more than I ever imagined was possible. More about how the world ended. More about what my family's real story is. More about what really matters."

Wheel of time- Eye of the world by Robert Jordan Any good? I've heard that it has some of the most detailed world-building in the entire fantasy genre.

Wheel of time- Eye of the world by Robert Jordan Any good? I've heard that it has some of the most detailed world-building in the entire fantasy genre. Took me 2 weeks to read the prolouge and earlier sections (50 pages) and 3 days to read the next 450 pages. So I'd say I'm loving it. Rough start but quite the interesting fantasy story

The First Industrial Nation - Peter Mathias. Not the easiest read, but probably the best book for gaining a detailed understanding of the Industrial Revolution and what it meant in real terms. It's very heavy on data from the period. Lots of detailed tables and graphs showing economic growth, demographics, wages, prices, imports/exports, etc.

A Monarchy Transformed, Britain 1603-1714. A book about the imho most interesting period of British political history.

Been reading a very interesting fiction book first published in 1898, about a large ocean liner called the "Titan", which speeds full steam into an Ice Field in the Atlantic Ocean, strikes an iceberg, and sinks, killing most on board. Cool story. Thankfully, it's just a story. You can read it for free, right here: archive.org/details/wrecktitanorfut01robegoog/page/n12/mode/2up

Just finished "War or Peace":
It paints a grim but true picture of Russia as an inherently imperialist power that hasn't changed since the Mongol invasion. Because ideas like the enlightenment or democracy never penetrated Russia, its mentality is essentially unchanged since the Mongol horde. Russia has never recognised or made amends of its imperialism, Russians like Benny Boy's mum honestly believe that they are some kind of Third Rome chosen people who can do nothing wrong.
My next reading will be :
If anyone thinks I have some kind of irrational hatred or fear of Russia, I can say that I have read more about Russia in the last year than I ever done about for example... the US. And due to this I don't have any irrational fears, only rational hostility.
