Intense heat wave in Japan, near 40C in inland parts. This was the highest I could find, Mino in Gifu prefecture 39.9C at 3pm, 40.6 is the high so far Humidity not as high as you might expect though, here's the town of Gifu in the same area, temp 39.4C humidity 24% giving a DP of 15.1C. It's higher closer to the coast though. Here are some major cities: Tokyo Nagoya Kyoto Osaka

Yeah... Impressive heatwave in the populous regions in Honshu, Japan. Both Nagoya and Gifu breaks their hottest monthly record today. (Nagoya: 38.9°C -> 39.2°C) / Gifu: 39.0°C -> 39.6°C) For Kyoto's case, until 2017 was holding 38.3°C then between the 14th to 16th of this month beat any previous records to place in the TOP 3. Then today will be the hottest above these (39.1°C)
Kyoto Daily High Temperature in the Past Five Days July 14, 2018 = 38.5°C July 15, 2018 = 38.7°C July 16, 2018 = 38.5°C July 17, 2018 = 38.1°C July 18, 2018 = 39.1°C

Wtf, this can't be accurate. FLL recorded an 83 F (28 C) dew point today?! w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KFLL.htmlI mean FLL is the most humid spot usually, and there were some high dews recorded today (77 F at HWO, 78 F at FXE) but I'm skeptical of the 83 F. I can believe the 81 F. That would have to be one of the highest dews ever recorded here.

Shouldn't the monsoon arrive in Japan already? Yes it should be raining now. There is a decrease in rainfall in August but it increases again in September/October.

Only got to 76 (24 C) today, the first sub 80 max since June 27th.
That means this 80+ streak was just 20 days, far from record breaking.
The dew point also dropped to just 43 (6 C), continuing the relatively dry stretch after the first week.
Despite today’s coolness the next few days look quite warm again with 90 likely on Friday. Through 18 days, the month is averaging 88.5/63.8, the low unremarkable but the average high still warmest ever if it holds (which it surely won’t).
