87°F with a dewpoint of 69°F right now; decent breeze at least today; reached 80°F at 9 am. Sunny but forecast has 60% of thunderstorms this evening. Looks like nothing huge or severe, just pop-up with potential for lots of rain with the high humidity. NWS Bosotn discussion
Aside from the heat and humidity, the focus shifts to the potential for convection this afternoon. Building upper level ridge will once again keep locations east of I-95 mainly dry and thus kept the lowest pops for RI and southeast MA. To the west, the combination of this tropical airmass and day time heating will result in high instability values. While lapse rates remain meager due to the nature of this atmosphere, there is an increase in mid-level winds with 0-6km Bulk shear reaching between 40-50 kts. Main threat with any storm will be string, gusty winds and heavy rainfall thanks to high PWAT values. Still expect the overall coverage to be limited as temps and heights do not fall during this period. Right now believe that any storm that does develop will occur after 2pm and linger into the evening hours with western MA and northern CT having the best chance to see convection.

Wtf. That was very random. I’m seeing reports of damage in the College Point area, so I’d imagine this thing touched down. Would be the first time since 2012 that a tornado struck NYC.

Wtf. That was very random. I’m seeing reports of damage in the College Point area, so I’d imagine this thing touched down. Would be the first time since 2012 that a tornado struck NYC. here's the report from NWS New York. Doesn't sound very damaging considering the area is built up. START LOCATION...COLLEGE POINT IN QUEENS NY END LOCATION...MALBA IN QUEENS NY DATE...AUG 02 2018 ESTIMATED TIME...1020 PM EDT TO 1030 PM EDT MAXIMUM EF-SCALE RATING...EF0 ESTIMATED MAXIMUM WIND SPEED...70 TO 85 MPH MAXIMUM PATH WIDTH...100 YARDS PATH LENGTH...0.7 MILES BEGINNING LAT/LON...40.7850/-73.8443 ENDING LAT/LON...40.7895/-73.8316 * FATALITIES...0 * INJURIES...0 ...SUMMARY... A TORNADO RATED AS EF0 ON THE ENHANCED FUJITA SCALE, WITH ESTIMATED WINDS OF 70 TO 85 MPH, TOUCHED DOWN NEAR SAINT FIDELIS CATHOLIC CHURCH IN COLLEGE POINT, KNOCKING DOWN NUMEROUS TREES AND POWER LINES AND PEELING SIDING OFF HOUSES ALONG A PATH ABOUT 3/4 OF A MILE LONG AND 100 YARDS WIDE. THE TORNADO STRENGTHENED AS IT MOVED TOWARD POWELL'S COVE PARK, WHERE AT LEAST 50 TREES WHERE DOWNED IN A NARROW, CONVERGENT PATTERN HIGHLY INDICATIVE OF A TORNADO. THE TORNADO BRIEFLY MOVED ALONG THE SOUTHERNMOST SHORELINE OF POWELL'S COVE, AND THEN DISSIPATED OVER THE FAR EASTERN END OF THE PARK JUST BEFORE REACHING 138TH STREET. ADDITIONAL STRAIGHT LINE WIND DAMAGE OCCURRED FROM THAT POINT EASTWARD TO THE FRANCIS LEWIS PARK NEAR THE WHITESTONE BRIDGE. MANY THANKS TO OUR PARTNERS AT THE NEW YORK CITY OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT FOR ASSISTANCE IN CONDUCTING THIS DAMAGE SURVEY.

Looks more humid tomorrow with a decent chance of t-storms.

-Seoul record hottest minimum temperature of 29.2°C this morning, while Gangneung(East Coast of South Korea) record 31.0°C which breaks previous record of 30.9°C of whole country. Broke another hottest daily minimum record for Seoul, 30.3°C on the 2nd of August then the next day "overnight" low were 30.4°C but later of the day fall to 30.0°C around midnight. What a disgusting summer.

Interesting how some of the records being broken in Korea are in the north of the country! As opposed to somewhere like Daegu or Busan
