I am in America right now. It must be a typical tourist photo, I was on the roof of Empire State Building like many others. Speaking of weather, it was partly cloudy and above 30c in New York on Wednesday and it was in fact sunnier than it looks.

There are a few trees with yellow and orange leaves. Difficult to know what's fall colors and what's drought damage. This birch seems to be suffering mostly from the latter. Landscape is almost solely variations of green still though, as most people would expect from mid August. I think there are usually more fall colors by now though, but I'm not completely certain. Went biking on the southern side of the city where you never go unless you live there or are going to someone who lives there, to the airport (or since Ikea opened there a couple years ago, to Ikea). I found a grove with way too many maples. It was next to someone's house. I think they initially made a small hedge of maples, but then they started spreading like crazy. It was super windy giving me basically backslick. Relief from the wind in this forest trail on the island named The Island. I wonder if all these trees are red because they died from drought or because they died from flooding this spring. Although most of the grass has completely recovered from the drought and is now as green as ever, it seems some patches of grass received irreversible damage and will need to be re-germinated I presume. Found a hare. It literally just sat there not moving a muscle for like 5 minutes. What a derpoid. Also saw some northern lights a few days ago. Never seen them in summer before. Odd.

On Friday I was in Washington DC and it was 34.4°C at Washington Baltimore airport.

After hearing other people of the village talking about how many mushrooms there are in the woods in these days, we decided to try again to look for some. (Clarification: in here everyone looks for porcini mushrooms, which are among the best tasting edible mushrooms and the best ones for risotto). Other note: some pictures are blurry because of the zoom or because the autofocus of the cellphone failed to decently focus. We were on a quite slippery terrain, so I could not always loose too much time on pictures or go closer than this. We actually managed to find quite a lot of them, we were the first to be surprised! Those mushrooms like chestnut trees, oaks and beech trees, so we pointed to a large wood of wild chestnut trees. ^ the both of these are porcini mushrooms This little guy had a quite malicious look instead (it was really small, so for this picture I had to zoom in too much): This one instead looks quite similar to porcini, but has a brighter color and turns blue/purple when you touch or cut it. Some of these mushrooms are poisonous, and also the edible ones are not so good, so we left it where we found it. No idea about what these are instead. The average terrain where we were walking was more or less like this, and particularly slippery because in the last few days it rained quite a lot and so the terrain below the fallen leaves was quite muddy too. When looking for mushrooms we usually don't follow real paths, we basically looked at the base of every chestnut tree we could reach. We also saw quite a lot of animal footprints around in the mud. This is a deer one. Actually, we also saw a deer crossing the road while driving to that part of the wood. There was also a point from which the wood opened and it was possible to see the valley. As you can see, today is quite cloudy overall. We also reached a waterfall, I actually like this one quite a lot. It looks really wild, with the water coming down from the rock and everything. I also tried to make a really brief video of the waterfall, because the static picture just isn't the same.

Baba's tree is probably Manchurian walnut. Today on Brighton Beach. Morning was cloudy, sun came out after 2 pm. It was a nice beach.

ilmc90 The landscape looks quite "European", for he lack of a better word; in between the neverending forests of New England and the nigh treeless Midwest. No idea about what these are instead. Looks like some sort of amanite. Not many leaves left on chestnut trees by now: It's been quite a nice weekend. Old hippodrome by a lake Gloriette on an island You can go there by boat and eat an overpriced meal far from the hustle and bustle of the city. You either take the shuttle or rent a row boat: Neat place to read a book. Doesn't look that comfortable tho. Dammit it's still dry on this side of the city. In my neighborhood the grass is green again now. Nothing lush, but it doesn't look like hay.

rozennThat area does have somewhat of a Midwestern vibe to it since it's a bit flatter than the more mountainous regions of the Poconos and Northern NJ.

Baba's tree is probably Manchurian walnut. Today on Brighton Beach. Morning was cloudy, sun came out after 2 pm. It was a nice beach. nice! looks cleaner than Coney Island. Not much waves? I wonder if Brooklyn beaches are partly protected from the surf and the Rockaways better. Can you speak Russian? Able to use it at all in Brighton Beach? I know there were some big storms yesterday and a couple days ago, dunno if they hit Brooklyn. You get any?

As well there were no storms yesterday. Yes, I can speak and there were indeed many Russians were. I read the area is called "Little Odessa" - an with reason. There are many Russian shops and food stores there, they sell as well Baltic herrings made in Latvia, sprats in oil etc and even curd snacks - the latter ones are so specifically a Baltic product. So it was funny to see that some of the items what were in the store there were exactly identical to those what are sold in food stores in Estonia.

Golden hour or something I was surprised to find these huge flowers in August. There are not flowers in August in subpolar Umeå. This is a pretty gross house color Better color. I like these sort of "half-houses". Cozy. These Yakutsk-inspired apartment buildings aren't quite as charming... We haven't had a nice sunset in a long time now. Most blueberry shrubbery is still fully green, but in some places fall colors have started appearing (although I think there might have been fall colored blue berry shrubbery for weeks, but don't quote me on that)
