It's winter everybody... Casualty from the storm in Umeรฅ a couple days ago. This is a tiny grove of many rather large (for our standard) marcescent oaks. Solitary oaks on people's lawns are quite common, but this is the only oaks I've seen in Umeรฅ that are planted together with other trees, making for a much narrower crown. Quite large cedar tree for Umean standards. Looks a little cool, idk Why do beeches have much nicer marcescent colors than other trees? Compared to oaks who get brown marcescent leaves, beeches' marcescent leaves look very vibrant and nice. Found another beech, this one with more leaves. And here's a stunted one

It's so dark even during the day now when overcast. The clouds weren't even that thick today, yet this image at 1pm had 1/50 with 200 ISO and f/1.8. The pathetic ski slope has apparently been fake-snowed. Very strange considering they haven't exactly opened yet... Although I guess you can use snow matresses, sleds, bobsleighs etc. Or at least could... For a couple days.... doG is Jesus

Just now it was snowing absolutely massive snow flakes. Probably larger than most years see. Some of them where literally, and I kid you not, 5 cm diameter, presumably because they'd lumped together.

A couple of picture from the last week. This week was characterised by frequent foehn wind moments, so it has generally been warm, sunny and windy (apart from the closest area to the mountains, which have been quite stormy instead). ^ Turin's architecture is so minimal... ^ I think that I've never posted any picture of them. In Turin, other than squirrels, there are also quite a lot of crows ( this species). They are quite intelligent birds, you should see them eating nuts. As I anticipated earlier, closer to the mountains the weather has been generally more stormy instead. Because of the strong wind of the last few days the most of the trees around my place are completely bare at the moment, so the scenery around my place definitively entered in full winter-mode.

Those crows are pretty common throughout Sweden

Snow doesn't really make days thaaat much brighter. However, there's a much bigger change during overcast nights because the snow lights up the clouds which in turn makes it a lot brighter. Yesterday a lot of snow fell. From about 5cm to nearly 15cm. (Half of that melted in today's heavy rain and 3'C) I've taken pictures of this gazebo before.

This is from my trip to the cliffs on the sunny Wednesday of this week.
Sweden in December? Check.
Lovely place:
Classic coastline formed in one of those typical bays around Nykรถping. This is coming from the glacial melt.
Sunset!
Got a bit darker quickly:
At the top of the cliffs again:
Some nice light on the way home too:

No snow, just frozen ground and bare trees Some light snow cover where I was today but only 1-2cm. These pictures were from last Tuesday. The marsh in this picture turns into a snowmobile trail if there's enough snow and ice. Frost in the ground. Not close to the amount the Swedish posters get.

Bitter cold. It hasn't been above -10'C today! What the frick you guys. Pretty cool frost formation on our balcony though. Also interesting how the lowest portion of the windows don't have any frost because they're "shaded" from the cold night sky by the guard rail.

It's finally a little milder. -6.3 to -6.8'C where I was and -5'C earlier at the airport. Interestingly, there was freezing or ice fog, or diamond dust. I'm not sure. It started last night, anyway. A tonne of frost on the eastern side of the lake, though almost none at the western side. Very weird. Don't know why that is. At first I thought it was because there was a snow machine on the north-eastern side which created clouds of snow 50m high spreading snow dust at least 500m, but the whole 5km strip of eastern shore was frosty. Also, whenever there was a cape/promontory/peninsula, the side facing west would be frosty, and the side facing east wouldn't be. Very weird. It's not like it's been snowing either. Getting back to the image this lady was walking with her phone without any gloves on. Cold. Is this a fissure or a crack or both? Some people might say I don't have a lot of different subjects to shoot... But I have one very good subject to shoot. Don't know if I've ever seen pine and spruce quite this color before. Extremely minty. The cutest little sauna ever. (The sauna is the little thing with the blue door) The fog/diamond dust or whatever it was (I could kinda feel it against my face) dissipated just 10 minutes after getting on the lake. Who wants to go swimming in this water park?
