Siberia and related (in effect winters colder than -8°C using standard means north of 42°N in East Asia, and "proper Siberian winters" at higher latitudes farther inland) (24/4-30/4): Asahikawa: 17/5 Astana: 14/5 Chita: 17/2 Harbin: 21/9 Heihe: 16/6 Irkutsk: 16/5 Khabarovsk: 17/7 Komsomolsk: 17/3 Krasnoyarsk: 14/3 Kyzyl: 20/7 Magadan: -0/-4 Mohe County: 13/-3 Nakhodka: 16/6 Norilsk: -0/-7 Novosibirsk: 13/4 Omsk: 13/4 Oymyakon: -1/-15 Petropavlovsk: 6/0 Spassk-Dalny: 16/5 Ulaanbaatar: 18/5 Verkhoyansk: 1/-12 Vladivostok: 17/6 Yakutsk: 3/-4 Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk: 14/0 Is Mr 🖕🏿Mörön🖕🏿 happy with Sapporo's inclusion at least? At 24 it's now enough though so it and Heihe: on the border with Blagoveshchensk (East Siberia's hottest summer climate) are the final two places included. Also notable, 3°C avg high forecast for Yakutsk, still rather cool, but about to explode. This is evident due to the -4°C average low, as more and more solar radiation will hit Sakha Republic now. Komsomolsk-on-Amur is also remarkably already hitting 10°C means at 50°N farther east than one would expect it to. Of course, Komsomolsk is the major city in the non-subarctic zone with the coldest winters. Amazing sudden reversal of Norilsk's dreadful fortunes so far this spring with what I assume is remnants of the European heat wave coming over there.

Doesn't look good on this picture if Kilpisjärvi wants to have snow until midsummer, boombo. But there is fresh snow on the forecast. The Kemi river in Rovaniemi is frozen at least for now:

I really don't understand your logic... But, this list does look more comprehensive with the inclusion of a Hokkaido location. That's pretty much what I was getting at, since Hokkaido and Sakhalin are quite similar.

Sapporo is a global city and the snowiest major city in the world 🖕🏿Mörön🖕🏿 It is also one of the largest cities north of 43°N in Asia. Hopefully it does make sense now?

Replaced Sapporo with Asahikawa in the end 🖕🏿Mörön🖕🏿 , thoughts? ah much better. Thanks Interesting how Asahikawa has closer numbers to Vladivostok and Nakhodka, rather than Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. Must be the time of year.

ah much better. Thanks Interesting how Asahikawa has closer numbers to Vladivostok and Nakhodka, rather than Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. Must be the time of year. It's 4° farther south and has a "direct line" through mainland Japan over a warm landmass, so not that surprising? It should be warmer than both Vladivostok and Nakhodka, except that East Siberia has a sort of "heat wave" right now. It's very uncommon to see consistently warm temps on that coast this early. Vladivostok has September roughly equal to July, similar to Hokkaido.

When will Inukjuak reach 0? 10? 0C is likely later this month. Last 0C was early December. 10C will be a while. Last 10C was late September and April's record high is only 7. Eureka usually gets above freezing in late May. But Resolute or a few other places can take until early June. Inukjuak reached 0.4 on April 23rd. The forecast low tonight is -21 so it'll be a while before it reaches +10. Daily data april 23rd

Siberia and related (29/4-5/5):
Asahikawa: 17/6 Astana: 16/6 Chita: 17/1 Harbin: 20/8
Heihe: 17/3 Irkutsk: 16/3 Khabarovsk: 15/4 Komsomolsk: 15/2
Krasnoyarsk: 12/3 Kyzyl: 18/6 Magadan: 2/-3 Mohe County: 17/-4
Nakhodka: 13/5 Norilsk: -5/-10 Novosibirsk: 13/4 Omsk: 11/3
Oymyakon: 2/-15 Petropavlovsk: 6/0 Spassk-Dalny: 14/4 Ulaanbaatar: 16/2
Verkhoyansk: 5/-8 Vladivostok: 12/5 Yakutsk: 6/-5 Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk: 10/2
Two things stand out, the western half of Siberia has gotten another backlash of cooler temps, which badly affects Norilsk, that is set for a -5°C avg high (!) in a timeframe that includes five May days...
Also, Verkhoyansk is forecast two consecutive 4°C lows next week during a shorter warmer spell, but interestingly enough it is almost as mild as Yakutsk at this stage, with spring yet to really pick up in the latter place.

Lommaren ^quite warm in Kyzyl-Harbin these days. Yes, will definitely be interesting to see what summer throws up for Kyzyl, Harbin, Heihe, Yakutsk, Verkhoyansk and Spassk-Dalny in particular, since all are far enough inland to really swing both ways. Asahikawa is probably more "maritime" in that its summers are more stable. Do you think so too?

From 5-01 to 5-08, average high/low forecast... Temps are warming quite a bit around the Antarctic Peninsula, while cooling around parts of eastern Antarctica (Casey Station, Davis Station) and the Antarctic Plateau (except Dōmu Fuji which is warming slightly but that is skewed by a -34C high today). Campbell Island is looking pretty subtropical in comparison to the other locations. Amundsen-Scott: -35/-39 ↑Bellingshausen: 0/-2 ↑Bernardo Higgins: -1/-4 ↑Bouvetøya: -3/-5 ↑Casey: -13/-18 ↓Campbell Island: 9/ 7 ↑Davis: -11/-15 ↓Dome Argus: -64/ -69 ↓Dōmu Fuji: -56/-64 ↑Esperanza: -1/-6 ↑Grytviken: 6/1 ↓Mawson Station: -11/-14 ↑Mawson Peak (2745m amsl): -15/-21 ↓McMurdo: -23/-26 ↓Neumayer: -14/-20 ↑Port-aux-Français: 7/2 ↓South Orkney: 0/-3 ↑Stanley: 8/4 ↓Troll: -16/-21 ↑Ushuaia: 7/3 ↓Vostok: -64/-68 ↓

North American continental places; on the high-latitude or cold side (2 May-8 May):
Anchorage: 11/3 Calgary: 22/6 Churchill: 1/-6 Edmonton: 23/4
Fairbanks: 14/-1 Fort McMurray: 20/1 Fort Simpson: 19/3 Fort Yukon: 12/-2
Kuujjuaq: 1/-9 Inukjuak: -2/-11 Intl' Falls: 19/2 Iqaluit: -6/-13
Matagami: 11/-1 Moosonee: 10/-1 Nain: 4/-5 Regina: 21/4
Saskatoon: 21/3 Thompson: 9/-4 Winnipeg: 21/4 Yellowknife: 10/-2
Sensational warming up of the prairies, with a start to May worthy of July highs in Edmonton, but with higher diurnals. Especially for Fort Simpson at 61°N, a 19°C avg high for the first week in May is sensational.

Yakutsk is warming up quickly now and will reach 20c on Saturday. Meanwhile in Norilsk, there is absolutely no sign of spring with another 10 days of -8/-14. Fun times in northern Krasnoyarsk Krai!
