Aleutian Islands might be a close Northern Hemisphere equivalent; summers still milder as its closer to a continent but winters are very wet and snowy. Should be squally, too en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unalaska,_Alaska#Climate Already know that, but their annual means are notably warmer than South Georgia at similar latitude; more on parity with Macquarie Island (4°-5° C annual mean). They may be quite squally, though not even close to that of the Southern Ocean; the Furious Fifties already surpass any body of water in the Northern Hemisphere on raw turbulence, due to lack of encircling landmass.

Sounded like you thought interior Norway normally don’t? No, maybe a little less often. Just mentioned it that interior Alaska's heat isn't special; Norway's is for how long it is. Can you post data for a station in interior Norway that got lots of 30°C + days this July?

Can you post data for a station in interior Norway that got lots of 30°C + days this July? Will do when I get back home, currently not in Norway. For instance, Drammen has 7 days with 30C+ this July, Gulsvik 14 days so far in July.

-2C in Port-aux-Français at the moment, with snow showers and a high of 0C today. Grytviken is -3C with forecast snow and a high of 0C as well today. The usual cold spots in Antarctica (Amundsen-Scott, Vostok, Dome A, Dome C, Domu F) look to be averaging -55C to -60C in the coming week, which is warmer than normal for Vostok and close to average for Amundsen-Scott.

summer has the flattest trend, autumn and winter the steepest. Summer trend is flat is the Arctic Ocean is stuck around freezing, more heat would just melt sea ice

A few remote Russian stations to check next winter. These show up somewhat regularly as the coldest in the country. Weather Underground used to show a list of the top 5, sometimes it still works. I'm sure I am forgetting some. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delyankir. 63-50N, possibly colder than Ojmjakon. www.ogimet.com/cgi-bin/gsynres?ord=REV&ndays=30&ano=2018&mes=01&day=31&hora=00&ind=24691Toko, Russia, only 56-17N, but with extreme diurnal ranges that make nights almost as cold as the rest. www.ogimet.com/cgi-bin/gsynres?ord=REV&ndays=30&ano=2018&mes=1&day=31&hora=00&ind=31137Dzlandia, 70-08N, but definitely not oceanic. Dawson, Yukon has a 1°C low in the forecast, almost a freeze and not even in the Arctic. So it begins.

If that's correct it's extremely impressive at 63N!

Yeah, that's incredibly hot, even hotter than Yakutsk at 62N, but Verkhoyansk has reached 37.3C at 67N so it doesn't seem impossible. It did reach 35.1C last month, but other summers did not see any 30C days. Ogimet data stops at 2012-08-30, but it has to have more data somewhere.

the thickest Arctic sea is detaching off of Greenland. Otherwise, this year isn't that particularly low sea ice wise
