6.7C in Oymyakon today, which is another record high for the date. The latest forecast for tomorrow gives 0C and the record high for the 15th is 0.4C, so there's still a chance of three records in a row. The last two days have been 16-17C above average! It still blows my mind how cold Oymyakon is and for how long! Grytviken appears to be hovering right around or just below the freezing mark the next seven days with precip every day but one; at least it's interesting, but that would get beyond depressing after a while.

Next few days are going to get close to record highs again in my adopted home town of Oymyakon, they are still on track for warmest October on record as well. They haven't had a single high below average since 16th September (average highs are getting close to -15C about now) and since then they have broken four date records.

It's only been a week or so since my last Oymyakon update, but we've now got to the point where even the mildest days are extremely cold and the average or cold temperatures don't even mean anything to me because I have absolutely no experience of what -30C feels like. Average maxima for early November are in the low -20s and minima in the low -30s, and still falling fast.

Yum Grytviken meanwhile looks to have the warmest temps in at least 6-7 months.

It got to 27-34F (-3 to +1C) in the Fairbanks area today, for a temperature rise of 60-65F over 72 hours. This is not unprecedented, but still rare.

Solidly frozen now in the place that teems with bears, but most days some way above their November average of -10/-17.

It's been a slow start to the snow season in Nuvsvåg in northern Norway with quite a bit of rain in the past few days. I don't know how much snow they get on average but they're already playing catch-up compared to the snowfest they had last winter, still 200 cm on the ground at the start of May somewhere at sea level!

I had a look at some random places in Siberia, it looks like there's well above average weather across a wide area right now. Irkutsk averages -3/-12 for November, these next two days might be the last above-freezing temperatures for a long time... Yakutsk should be getting more like -23/-31 at this time of year so this is 10C above average, obviously still extremely cold though. Oymyakon's averages for mid-November are -31/-40 so this is above average too, not that it makes much difference when it's so cold anyway.

Maybe the start of permanent snow cover in Tromsø? They had 70 cm as early as 6th November last year but no snow on the ground as of yesterday.

Past couple days have been cold in eastern Siberia: maxima around -60f, minima around -64. www.pogodaiklimat.ru/monitor.php?id=24688
It'll be interesting to see if these places can break the -70f mark in the coming week.

^Nice crunch. On the other side of the world, Yelloknife NWT is about to get some very nice winter weather after a mild start to the month reaching above 0C last week.
