Current cold spot in Canada is Fort Good Hope at -45.7C (-50.3F).
Forecast low tonight is -52C/-62F . Their all time record low is -56, set in 1917 and 1947. Baker Lake is reporting -37 with 42kph winds (wind chill -57) but the other station is only showing 13kph. Both stations recorded -40 with some wind earlier giving a wind chill of -59C/-74F. Wind chill is not an actual temperature, but it probably feels colder in Baker Lake than Fort Good Hope right now. Nunavut can get some nasty combinations of cold and wind. weather.gc.ca/provincialsummary_table/index_e.html?prov=nu&page=hourly

December has been a volatile month in Yakutsk. Week 1 was 10C above normal, then week 2 and week 3 were both 5C below normal, canceling out the anomaly of the first week. The upcoming week's forecast seems to be near normal, with most days near -40/-43c. www.pogodaiklimat.ru/monitor_grafik.php?y=2020&m=12&id=24959

The winter lives there. A cold wave in southern Siberia.

The airport of Novosibirsk, the largest city in Siberia, has reported -40C last night, up to -35C during the day. rp5.ru/Weather_archive_in_Tolmachevo_(airport),_METAR All those complaining about too mild winter should go there. P.S. The Novosibirsk agglomeration's population exceeds 2 millions.

Pffft, it's different wanting to have some snow settling on the ground and suffering -40C temps.

Yes, the cold wave in the big cities of the south-central Siberia is weakening and and thus the weather forecasts are now becoming more boring there. But Vladivostok looks promisingly sunny and yeah this sun there is no weaker than eg the sun above Nice. <img src=" <img src="<img src="

Oymyakon had its first -70F reading of the season today, with a low of -56.8C ( graph).VERY different story in Verkhoyansk. Today they set a record maximum of -16.4C, which is +2F ( graph).

Getting quite bitter in Siberia, first I'll start off with Verkhoyansk and Oymyakon, Verkhoyansk having a -55/-59 C day in the forecast and looking colder than normal for the most part. But the most impressive is Tura, Krasnoyarsk. With winters about 10 C warmer than Verkhoyansk and Oymyakon, look at that -51/-55 C day . For reference, their January averages are about -31/-39 C so this is nearly 20 C below average! Record low is -76 F (-60 C) as a frame of reference. Consistent 12-20 C below average there.

TWC puts Yakutsk at -65f (-54c) next Wednesday morning. Been decades since it's been that cold.
Edit: changed to -64 now, would still be a decade low.

^Yeah, it's been brutal up there.
Yakutsk's forecast is looking even colder than the one I posted a week ago. They are looking at -55C for Monday morning. We might be talking three-decade lows if this verifies.

This is not even Oymyakon but Tura in the middle of Siberia. But the more so these temperatures deserve attention. And yes, in Celsius.

^ Tura has been absolutely brutal this January. This is a place with -30 C average highs but I haven't seen a forecast with any temps above -40 C in weeks there. Still cold, though not quite as cold as the forecast you posted. Consistently below -40 C still though.
