Still quite mild in Fairbanks. Must be some nice chinooks hitting the place right now. Nome, on the other hand, looks like its bound for a ton of rain. Nome having a -10/-19C normal for January, will be the climate expected to turn nasty the latest and the least among these three of course, yet currently is still the coolest among them even though October is a month where that's expected to shift completely due to the maritime influence. Still a sensationally cold-winter climate for a westerly-facing coastal climate at 64N. It's not far north of Trondheim and in a similar position for heaven's sake! That Siberian High really wreaks havoc on water temps in the region.

Fort Yukon has an average October absolute max of 7.4C and it's going to be above that for the next four days!

Fort Yukon has an average October absolute max of 7.4C and it's going to be above that for the next four days! Yep but if it's going to happen at that latitude with the dwindling daylight, it better happen this time of the month This is Nain at 56N on the opposite side of North America, just south of the world's southernmost sea-level tundra! Getting cooler and cooler but not quite ready for the annual snowageddon just yet! January avg temps -14/-23C at a similar latitude to Dundee. Nuuk (64N) has much, much milder winters (Feb -6/-11C), but there's an actual snowchance quite soon there! Magdalen Islands (47N) with the coldest winters imaginable for an island being surrounded by vast amounts of waters and a warm landmass to its south (-4/-12C in Feb) is still very mild though. Tremendous seasonal lag.

Yakutsk update, the frosts have started moving and apparently it's -7C this night that unfolds right now. Verkhoyansk is at a relative standstill as well.

Looks like Eureka, Nunavut will potentially fall below 0 F next Monday until next spring? Summit, Greenland is looking quite cold today with a high of -17 F (-27 C), rest of the forecast looks warmer. I have a feeling that the warmer part of the rest of the forecast is BS.

Chance of an ice day on Monday in Yakutsk! Verkhoyansk may hit -15C for the first time this season on Monday. Meanwhile, Kyzyl (27/14 July, -23/-33 in January) is starting to look a little nasty

Winter is rolling into Yakutsk, although not at light speed currently. Meanwhile, Spassk-Dalny, probably the coldest low-lying city on 44N in the world during winters, still can get warm spikes. 24C yesterday apparently.

Kaffeklubben Island - northernmost point on land on Earth. Looks like 24-hour darkness is starting up there.

Winter is about to start in Norilsk I would love to see a forecast like that. That's how long transitional seasons should last. We've had two weeks of foggy, rainy, muddy nastiness now and I'm just about done with it.

Coldfoot is going frigid with Fairbanks soon to follow. Again, I love how quickly this happens.
