It never occurred to me to look Vostok up on there lol!
Shame that the sun hours on WO can't handle the concept of the midnight sun, because otherwise you'd expect 24 sunshine hours a day probably most days in December.

Liawenee's record Oct temperature is 23.6°C. It is forecast to be 23°C for the next two days. It will be 23°C tomorrow. Liawenee is colder than Hobart. Anyway, the station has only been open since 2001 so most of the records are fairly mild. Still, with averages of 0.6°C/11.7°C in October, it's impressive!!

About average in Barrow this week, it's almost scary how anywhere where people actually live can be this cold and bleak so early in the year. Look at those ridiculous sun times as well, even way up in the Arctic they still have later sunsets than me for the next few days. They'll be on 11:35 - 16:45 before the clocks change and even then on 16-18 November they'll still have a sunrise after midday!

Eureka looking quite cold to end October with a -33 C high predicted for Oct 31st! To give you an idea, the average high for the end of October is -22/-23 C so quite below average. Summit looking downright brutal with a -50 C high predicted on the 31st.

I'd love it if that actually happens, I'll have to see it to believe it though, because their average high in January is a "mere" -36C. Svalbard's not way above average!! (I think Longyearbyen should be about -6/-12 at this time of year)

Surprised it isn't forecast to be colder here, tbh. Also it looks like a winter in my dream climate

Eureka getting temps that are more normal for about a month from now (late November/early December) than now. I don't buy the -18 C and -19 C highs for tomorrow and Wednesday.

Summit looking downright brutal with a -50 C high predicted on the 31st. Well today is the 31st, so how are those forecasts looking now I wonder? I think their central Greenland mountain forecasts need a bit of fine-tuning, though clearly they knew something was coming today for Summit Camp, because they've gone from -20.9C at midnight local time to -38.3C at midday, which is still extremely cold for this time of year. www.weatheronline.co.uk/weather/maps/city?WMO=04416&CONT=euro&LAND=GL&LEVEL=140&TIME=stdCredit where credit's due for their Eureka forecast though, they forecast below-average weather a week ahead and that's what they have: currently -29C at 11 am local time, though the sun's not going to rise today anyway so the time of day is irrelevant. This is their forecast for the next few days, not much to report:

The Arctic seems to be cold so far this autumn! A good sign perhaps for the coming winter? It could also be the opposite, a leveled out jet stream keeps cold air for dropping down into mid-latitudes and keep the cold core in the High Arctic. Hopefully there's a lot of jet stream dips this coming winter so we can get some of that bottled up cold air.
