Ominous clouds this morning, the first of several waves that brought us zero rain

Saskatoon and surrounding area is finally greening up, though later and more slowly than normal due to the extreme dryness and unseasonably cold nights. This is what Saskatoon normally looks like in early May, not at the end of the month...









And now a walk through Cranberry Flats Conservation Area, a beautiful riverside park just south of the city. In April about 60% of the park was affected by a wildfire in the area which burned much of the vegetation down completely. Burnt patches can still been seen and most of the park smells strongly of charcoal, but the new grass that has come up is brilliantly green, by far the greenest vegetation anywhere in the surrounding area that I've seen. This is what Saskatoon's vegetation usually looks like by the end of May on a normal year (minus the burnt stuff, obviously).
