Interesting clouds this afternoon. Almost mammatus-like.

I remember Edmonton had us beat by at least a week last year, but this time we even beat Saskatoon by a week or two it seems.

In normal climates, cherries blooming is the first thing to happen to trees pretty much, and cherries normally bloom before any trees are leafed out. Well not in Umeå. Cherry trees started getting their first flowers on the 12th-13th lol. This is at 04:30 on the 14th. Had to wake up at 2:am this morning. Meant I got to see the sunrise. It's been slightly above average since the images I uploaded last time, and the fact that the majority of all wild birches are green now makes a lot of difference for the overall greenness. The bird cherry forests where I live are starting to look like they could be taken in June. A problem is that bird cherries would be blooming if it were actually June. But if you don't know the species you could definitely be mistaken for thinking the above shots were taken in June. Maybe not this one since it's showing some bare trees (although tbh, Aspen can still be bare in early June). We've had quite a lot of rain this May, maybe 20mm, but some fields are still looking pretty dry lol.

ahhh, Umeå --- land of gorgeous sunsets/rises year-round. Do you even sleep Babu ? Few nights ago you were an uncouth Swedish youth climbing random ladders on the side of apartment buildings at 2am and just today you were a responsible Swedish youth waking at 2am, presumably going to his job...

Well, I got an average of 5 hours of sleep this week. The schedule is set up so that you'll work evenings one week followed by mornings the next and so on. Kinda crappy but yeah

traveling today. Long Island shore; can see convective cumulus on the horizon. Finally a summery sky. train followed the Connecticut River just south of Springfield couple more train shots by Holyoke, MA evening bike ride up into the hills above Northampton nice pond, but really buggy my bike, some trees had leaves just coming out appears to be a beaver dam on the side of the pond great dirt road keeps going through the forest. Bike speed whisks away the bugs. Flowering trees are out Firetower view. at 1700 feet. was 30-40 minutes before sunset. lot of bare trees full moon out. forest looks endless was much faster going back. sunset going down dusk most of the way back how does the leaf progress compare to yours Babu Morningrise

It's ahead, but it's difficult to answer because obviously our woods consist of very different trees. The trees we have here would probably bloom much earlier in Northampton, and I'm sure your tree composition would be really bare here.
However, if we just compare how bare our forests look, it's a lot closer. A heatwave has also just started which should change things a lot in the coming couple of days.

That's definitely further ahead than ours, though we are starting to catch up as the leaves are getting noticeably bigger every day.

April 2018 was pretty avg, only 0.6C above 1986-2015 avg. And March 18 was indeed freezing cold.

Yesterday I went to the Arboretum and rapids just west of Umeå. Snow pile on someone's yard. Bridge View from bridge: When there weren't any aspen in view it looked pretty green. 16.6'C high at the airport that day. Felt just on the border of being summer, with all the green trees and warmth and sunshine. Took off my jacket for the day right after I took this picture pretty much. Summer makes Baba a happy boi For some reason, the river is lower than I think I've ever seen it. This is supposed to be a rapid lol. Up at the head of the rapids. Ironically it's the south-facing slope that looks the most bare just because that side has a bunch of Aspen. The solid rock ground has been shaped funnily by the water. There are a bunch of natural legit pools. We've bathed there many times, last time being last September in the middle of the night. Thumbs up if your waters also look like piss and beer! Katsura trees had small leaves as of then. Tbh this photo has no purpose really, because I didn't take a lot photos of trees since I'm going back there again tomorrow with my mates anyway lol. That's got to be the most disgusting ground I've seen. Crooked paths through the arboretum Stupid bare aspen ruins the view. Although I suppose it'd have ruined the view even more if it was fully green Found some snow/ice on my way home And here are two shots from today. They're both taken from the same spot, and one is showing the right side of the road, and the other is showing the left. Summer: Spring

Red River is pretty high at Alexandria right now. Bottoms of trees submerged.

Warmest day of the year. Went back to the rapids, this time with company. This shot looks a lot greener than two days ago. The birches that were kinda yellow and thinly leafed that time were completely leafed out this time. We couldn't get over how empty the river was. This dam is supposed to be a dam filled with water, often overflowed. Never been able to walk here before We actually managed to cross over to the other side wtf. Think about that. We crossed the rapid. This is May. Shouldn't the water level still be elevated from a spring flood or something? Even in April during peak melting, the river was lower than usual (although quite a lot of water in the dams for whatever reason). Although I suppose the dams may have been closed the other times we've been here and that's why there was more water then. That makes sense too I guess. Looks as if Linus is checking Benjamin's booty out Benjamin found a rod and Linus a hole. He later proceeded to jam his rod into Linus' hole. I found water. Fucking hell. I sat on my glasses totally wrecking them today. Had to bend them back into shape from scratch pretty much. They're not the same. And we found an eel. Just a baby. 30-40cm Pear tree blooming in the background. Bird cherry just started blooming in the foreground. This is the same cherry that got its leaves on the 22nd or 23rd. It literally took 4 weeks for it to start blooming. Last year the first bird cherries didn't get their leaves until around the 7th of May, yet they were already starting to bloom around the 14th. Ridiculous. It took just one week last year, and this year it took 4. That's how shit the start to May was this year. Comparison shots: May 28th 2018 Sep 1st 2018: Lol look at the flies in the sky May 16th 2019: Notice all the rocks jutting up?
