I made a trip to Louisville yesterday to pick someone up from the airport, and once again the difference in lightning quality is astonishing. As I was stopping at McDonalds in an eastern suburb (Simpsonville), the was sun still out but some dark clouds were building, and out of the corner of my eye I saw a bolt come down with blue sky behind it. Soon after, two struck at the exact same moment, and you could feel the ground move a little from the thunder. I haven't seen stuff like that in years...might as well have been Tampa. And the same storm was still producing CG lightning on the way back in almost the same area.

Looks like their all time record high will be broken! Downright subtropical summer there.
Meanwhile, it continues to be below normal here and wet.
Back in Vancouver, it also looks wet but with normal to slightly above temps.

Milwaukee's first second 30C day was yesterday. It came with a bang, as it reached 34C with strong thunderstorms that left many people without power, my workplace included. The temperature graph was interesting, two drops during the day due to rain.
Edit: It reached 86F/30C exactly on the first, so it was the second 30C day. Temperature is red. The arrows are when the rain appeared, first as a light shower and then as heavy rain. 19 degree drop in 1 hour! 19 degrees is larger than the average diurnal range. Also the dew point (green) climbed until early afternoon. Then the wind picked up from the west and the air turned hotter and drier. The rain brought the temperature down, but the dew point climbed the next hour from the wet ground. After the storm, the wind slowed down and it was later in the day so it didn't heat up again. Metric: Hourly data: click on the spoiler.

Been quite hot the past two days, with highs of 95 F (35 C) and 93 F (33.8 C) respectively, with dews in the upper 60s and low 70s. Had quite the thunderstorm on both days too, I swear the past ten days or so have been nearly ideal summer weather, hot and stormy. Last night only dropped to 72 F (22.2 C) which ties the warmest low of the year so far with June 20th. Reagan Airport next to DC only dropped to 78 F (26 C) overnight! And they're already at 85 F with a 76 F dew point as of 10 am. Quite steamy. w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KDCA.html

We had quite the stormy afternoon yesterday, was literally pouring down rain for a solid two hours (3 pm - 5 pm) after reaching a peak of 92 F with a 72 F dew point. Dulles only recorded 0.04" (1 mm) of rain, but the storms were stationery over here (Herndon), Sterling and Reston areas which are just to the east of Dulles, but only grazed Dulles slightly. We probably got well in excess of 1" of rain, maybe close to 2" (lots of localized flooding). Today is quite humid, will reach 88 F (31.1 C) today with more thunderstorms. Btw ππΏMΓΆrΓΆnππΏ and nei , Anchorage officially hit 90 F (32.2 C) for this first time in their history yesterday! w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/PANC.htmlIronically, Fairbanks has been quite moderate in comparison to Anchorage, usually the other way around. w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/PAFA.html

Friday's gonna be interesting. FMI has us at a 12C high, WO at 18C, Foreca at 15C. The coldest July high recorded at Artukainen since the opening in 2003 is 15.3C. Coldest ever recorded high is in 1977 at the Airport with 10.3C, and the last below 14C is from 1995.
Nothing spectacular happened. The rain arrived early (during the night), and the afternoon was sunny and we briefly peaked at 16.5C. Cold for July, but nothing record-breaking.
Tampere struggled a lot, but they hit 14C eventually late afternoon.

Gee the storm season has been really poor this year and I see no sign of that abating. Warm to hot depending on the place today:

Awesome summer day today.
After a low of 73 (23 C), it quickly warmed up to 88 (31 C) by noon.
Heat index topped out at 94 (34 C).
Then a thunderstorm swepped through with a heavy downpour bringing 0.60β.
After a brief pause in the rain, although with thunder still going, a second t-storm blew by around 2 with another 0.51β.
This 2nd storm featured a 76 f dew, possibly the highest for the whole year.
After clearing up again, a 3rd storm passed through an hour later with 0.19β and another 76 f dew.
After that it remained warm and very humid with temps of 83-84 and dews of 75.
All in all, it thundered for almost 2 hours straight with 3 storms combining for a total of 1.30β (33 mm).
Only problem is the early timing of the storms so it prevented the temp from getting as hot as it could have.
Fucking Albany has 4 90s already, Syracuse has 3, we only have 1 and that was exactly 90.
Anchorage has the same highest temp as us, International Falls and Caribou, Maine both got hotter.

The effects of tropical depression Mun were felt here this week. Lots of drizzle but few heavy downpours, no thunder, very depressing. The high was only 27.4 C yesterday, about 5-6 C below average:

Already quite warm this morning here, 81 F (27 C) with a 71 F (22 C) dew point as of 9 am. Predicted high is said to be 88 F (31 C) but yesterday's predicted high was also 88 F and it ended up hitting 91 F instead, so today could be similar.
Reagan had another quite steamy night, only dropping to 77 F (25 C) overnight.

Predicted high for today originally was 88 F (31.1 C), then raised to 90 F (32.2 C) late morning, it's currently 93 F (33.8 C) outside. They've been a bit off with our highs the last few days.
Manassas (30 km to our south) is currently at 33.8 C (93 F) with a 23.3 C (74 F) dew point, while the dew at Dulles is "only" 67 F (19.4 C). Wonder what's causing the difference in dews.
Leesburg (25 km to our northwest) has a 75 F (23.8 C) dew point currently, how is Dulles 8 F lower?!

Another day similar to yesterday back home. Hit 85 (29 C) early than had a big thunderstorm with 0.56β.
Dew hit 76 again today, very impressive.
81 with a 75 dew there now, quite humid. Donβt think the dew has been sub-70 since Thursday morning!
