Incredible heatwave across NW Europe at the moment, new records that might only last one day set in Belgium (39.9C) and Holland (39.3C) as well as Germany. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-49100271I slept through a pretty big thunderstorm last night with 19 mm but we've still got one more day of heat, maybe 30C or so up here but more like 38-39C in London so I'm expecting our national record to go as well. Bear in mind that there were only nine years in the whole of the 20th century when anywhere in the UK got to 35C, now it's not even anything special.

So annoyed bout last night ffs we got thunder and lightning but the really heavy rain went right past us of course. And yeah lke 35C isnt anything to shout about anymore it seems but 38-9 oh boy.... looks like 39 is gonna be somewhere in South London

Last night's lows. The warmest lows are all from higher elevated places above the inversion layer:

^ Damn, 26 C lows in west-central Germany, insane heat!
Meanwhile here, it's a seasonably cool summer morning at 17 C (62 F), might be even cooler than that at the 6 am observation. Feels a bit chilly outside, gonna be a nice afternoon here with an 85 F (29.4 C) high predicted with sunny skies, 20% chance of an isolated thunderstorm.
Looking to get warm again per the 7-day forecast however, lots of 91-92 F (33 C) highs in the forecast.

Not as hot here sadly, but Sat and Sun should still be pretty hot on our subarctic polar arctic standards. Saturday has a nice amount of that sweet whitish pink colour (FMI HIRLAM model):

Uh oh one can spot storms from the temp map. Temps in the high 100s followed by an epic storm. Awesome weather day down there in the Orleans area.

The latest obs at Orly airport is 37.4°C and rain. Does that count as handsome warm rain? Btw since today, all the weather stations in Paris metro have record highs in the 40s. Some readings among others: 41.9°C (107°F) at Orly airport 42.6°C (109°F) in Paris-Montsouris 43.6°C (110°F) in St Maur (dodgy station tho, even if it's operated by Météo France)

This map is for history books. woulda been frustrating if were still in Nice at the time and had an unmemorable 32°C. Interesting that the heat weakens going south to France and Italy. Dunno if our heatwaves would have as much of a contrast north-south

rather potent northern continental air made it all the way to the Gulf of Mexico muggier in the upper Midwest than Texas right now
