So it did actually end up dropping to 59 F (15 C) this morning: w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KIAD.htmlHigh ended up being 87 F (30.6 C), so a good diurnal range. Was quite the beautiful day today. A very nice 75 F with a 55 F dew point at the moment.

This summer hasn't been that bad so far temp-wise and has had a decent amount of precip. If NOAA is correct I might be getting a heat wave mid-August, though I'm not sure how much I trust their mid/long range forecasts during the summer.

Sun feels stronger with the lower dew point (less haze?) so yeah definitely still feels hot. It feels quite comfortable by the time sunset arrives though.

^ Looks decent for my area too, forecasts do show a stormy start to August. Remarkably consistent this afternoon, the past five hours have all had nearly identical observations: w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KIAD.html looks like it did hit 90 F in between hours though.

It's not the record-breaking heat of Europe, but last week there was some exciting summer weather in western Wisconsin. Heat, storms, heat, and then a strong cool front.
Here is a 4-day summer for La Crosse from the 17th to 20th.
17th: A warm day with a high of 87F/31C, afternoon dew point of 67F/19C, clear. Seasonal weather.
18th: The morning low is 72F/22C with morning thunderstorms dropping 0.33"/8mm. Temperatures and humidity climb during the day, with an afternoon high of 89F/32C and a dew point of 76F/24C. The dew point is even higher in the evening, reaching 78F/26C before strong thunderstorms bring 3.36"/85mm of rain between 10pm and 6am. 1.48"/38mm falls in 1 hour. 19th: The morning low is 73F/23C during the storms. After the rain, the weather turns clear and the afternoon high soars to 97F/36C, with a dew of 80F/27C under clear skies. At midnight it's still oppressive, 88F/31C with a dew point of 79F/26C.
20th: By sunrise the temperature only dropped to 84F/29C with a dew point of 77F/25C. More thunderstorms come through in the late morning and early afternoon bringing 0.54"/13mm rain along with much cooler weather. The low temperature is 67F/19C at 1:30pm during a storm. The afternoon high is only 73F/23C at 6pm and overcast. Temperature and rainfall graph: The storms on the 18th,19th, and 20th caused five small tornadoes, several things damaged by falling trees, and minor flooding. So far, the monthly average in La Crosse is 88/68F (31/20C), about 4F above normal. No extreme heat, just constant above-average weather. Every day has reached 82F/28C.
Rochester, Minnesota recorded a 74mph/119kph wind gust on the 20th.
NWS has summaries of the storms out now, I'm not sure how long they keep these online.
www.weather.gov/arx/jul1819Milwaukee was cloudy on the 19th, so it wasn't close to 97 there. There were 2 or 3 days with high 90s and storms expected, but the forecast was wrong and the hottest was 93 with a few small storms. Total fizzer.

Helsinki Kaisaniemi recorded its all-time highest temperature with 33.2C. The station has been operational since 1844.
Turku among many others had its hottest day today with a mean of 26.0C (33.2C/18.8C).
Highest temp today (and for the summer) was 33.7C recorded at Porvoo Emäsalo. They had also a low of 20.7C which yields a 27.2C mean.
Highest low was unsurprisingly at the Tampere UHI station with 23.2C.
Lowest high was at Utsjoki Nuorgam with 12.2C.

Had a decent downpour yesterday evening though not much thunder. Got 0.68" in my gauge yesterday. Short lived convection earlier this afternoon with a bit of rain. More may be trying to develop right now. NWS raised chances tomorrow and Tuesday to 60% and 70%.

Rochester got to 91 (33 C), the 4th 90+ time this year today. Hopefully it won’t be the last one but we probably won’t hit average this year.
Meanwhile, Albany just hit 90 for the 11th fucking time this year and the 10th time this month. They’ll have an 87 f average high this month.
Fucking everywhere but Rochester getting heat but it’s especially infuriating when it’s a 3 hour drive to much more heat!
