strange drop to 80°F at central Park after reaching 92°F. Most other stations are in the low 90s or high 80s. sunny in central park, so not clouds; JFK is in the high 80s. If it were an ocean breeze, JFK would have cooled, too. An automated station on the Upper East Side of Manhattan had a fast drop (96°F to 87°F in just over an hour) Central Park's was larger (92°F to 80°F). Seems like some drop was real at least something must have happened, an official station in Lower Manhattan dropped to 81°F and then warmed up again

Well, today's high ended up being 97 F (36.1 C), 4 F (2.2 C) higher than the predicted high (93 F/33.8 C). Damn, that's quite the overshoot. w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KIAD.htmlNo 90s in the forecast for the first time in a while, seems like a flip switches as soon as August starts. Still rather seasonable though. Looking pretty stormy as well.

Had quite the storm this morning! Most rain in a single day since April 2, 2017. The airport recorded 7.70" (had over 5 inches in a 2 hr period and 3 inches in an hour!). This was the 7th most rainfall in a single day on record here. Unfortunately some houses and businesses flooded. The total in my gauge was 6.12". I was at work at the time of the storm and didn't really get to watch much of it... There was quite a bit of lightning. Flooding in front of the office. Readings at the airport.

NWS Milwaukee posted a map of tornadoes in the state. A lot of these are tiny, especially #4, that was 9m wide and lasted only 130m. But there were a few significant ones this month.

It's been a pretty mild summer here, with a cooler and wetter July than normal and now temperatures forecast to be mostly below average in August. We've got a couple of hot humid days coming up before the temperature drops, after that it looks like real summer weather will be more or less finished for the season... a very short and mild summer this year.

Great weather out west, I’ve been gone for 18 days now I think (too lazy to do the math) and it’s only rained twice, neither for long or interfering with hikes. Nights have also been nice and cold for camping.

Today was the same exact story as Tuesday, but with both ends being 10 F cooler. Predicted high: 83 F, actual high: 88 F w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KIAD.htmlThe first two days of August were both predicted to be stormy and both days have disappointed.

Wow, 3pm and we're barely touching 80 throughout NYC. It's warmer in Syracuse, Buffalo, Rochester, and Albany so far today. Dews in the 50s too. That's my kind of summer day! Also weird: LGA is the coolest station in the metro today.

It got up to 98F yesterday, hottest temp so far of the year. I guess the temp spiked between hours since the hourly obs looked like this.

^ What the hell? Temperature spiked 8 F warmer than the hourly OBS? That seems unlikely. Usually only like a 1-2 F difference.
So after a lame start to August, with thunderstorms predicted for all first six days and getting jack shit, we finally got some good thunderstorms yesterday (Airport recorded 0.40", but my area seemed to get a lot more, even some localized flooding). Even then, yesterday was another hotter than predicted day, predicted high was 89 F and it ended up hitting 92 F.
Today has a predicted high of 90 F with a slight risk of storms. Looks like we'll get some seasonably cool nights this weekend, NWS has 60 F for us on Saturday night, so possible 50s early Sunday morning. Crossing my fingers for it.

Tuesday and yesterday were muggy but both barely went above 80°F. Yesterday because of heavy rain much of the late afternoon; doesn't have the same intense heat feel much of July had. Next week looks good

42 out of the last 50 days have had above average highs here. Generally only 1C or so above, apart from a couple of hot days. Hasn't felt like a great summer as it's been pretty wet, but I'll happily take it being warmer and wetter if we keep getting these thunderstorms.

Drove through Death Valley today and it was 117 (47 C) according to my car thermometer and 116 (47 C) a little later according to the thermometer outside the furnace creek visitor center.
We walked around to some dunes and overlooks with temps of 112-116 and while my friends couldn’t wait to get back to the air conditioned car, I didn’t mind it.
Especially with a breeze, it was tolerable and it was quite a cool feeling being so hot and windy and dry, very different from anything back east.
This comes after yesterday when there was a sleet/snow/hail mix in Yosemite.

Damn here we got fuck all this summer. At least today we got meaningful rain and a couple rumbles of thunder, accompanied with dews topping 70. 28.5 mm at Orly airport, minor flooding in spots: Intense lightning under a supercell in the SE outskirts tho:

We've had quite a bit of thunder the past days. Not any supercells or epic systems, but 4 days this week anyway. However, that means that high temperatures have been quite subdued.
Running well below average, even more when you consider that the last week of July and first week of August is the hottest time of the year.
