Strewthless - how do you feel abut the Doors? Like the song I just posted? I noticed you liked when I posted End of the Night. The Doors were one of my favorite bands when I was a teenager. I read two Jim Morrison biographies when I was in high school - Break on Through and No One Here Gets Out Alive. I love The Doors, I posted them quite a lot before you rejoined. I often wonder what music they would have gone on to make if Jim Morrison hadn't died so young. I don't think it could have matched their earlier material. It was a creative spark that was short-lived, IMO. Plus, Morrison could have still gone to prison. |

We geniuses have filled up 20 pages of this thread. In celebration, I'm going to go throught the first 20 pages and pick my favourite song from each to create a playlist. Minus reposts, of which there are inevitably a few, but don't delete anything because it'll mess up my list! Bear with me, this might take a while... I'm fairly happy with this list, although it could be subject to revision. Some pages were easy, others had 3/4 songs that I could have easily picked given my mood at the time. Page 5 in particular was hard, almost every song was good enough to have been chosen, but Nights in White Satin was victorious. snj90 rozenn nei , I'd like to see your lists, if you get time. |

Interesting concept! Sounds like I'm a James Bond fan!  Loads of unavailable videos on the first pages unfortunately. Page 5 was tricky for me as well, but I agree on Nights In White Satin. Btw if I count well we have 7 in common. |

Strewthless - You called Oh Darling a brilliant vocal performance by Paul. And I agree. But so is this one, perhaps even more so. I would say it is.

rozenn , tbh I didn't expect anyone to join me in doing that, but I found it fun I think our main difference is that I'm more rock-orientated, although we do have some crossover. Almost every song I chose was a rocker of sorts. snj90 , I still prefer Oh Darling. I think it was John who gave his best vocal performances in the early days.

This is a good vocal performance by John from the early days. I wouldn't put it on par with A Taste of Honey, though.

^^^ Their first album was brilliant, makes it hard to believe that they found it so hard to get a contract in the early days. Especially given that no UK band was anywhere near that good in 62/63. Our rock scene was mostly just cover bands and Elvis/Chuck Berry/Little Richard impersonators.
