Let's gather the records here. Yesterday broke a lot of records, including the all-time ones in the Netherlands and Belgium, but they are broken again today.

38C in Cambridge, so the July record of 36.9C has gone, and now only the all time record of 38.5C left to go.

Paris broke its all-time record, I've seen one source saying 42.4C, another saying 42.6C. It's currently 41C there at the moment.
Deleen, Netherlands reached 41.7C, the first recording over 40C in the country.

Nationwide all-time records on 23 July 2019:
Netherlands: 38.6C Belgium: 38.8C Luxembourg: 37.9C
At least 41.2C has been recorded in Belgium (Izegem), and 38.7C in Luxembourg (Remich).
Amsterdam has hit at least 35.8C, so it breaks their all-time record with 0.1C at least. Brussels has hit at least 40.3C, smashing their old July record of 37.1C like a boss. The previous all-time record temp in the city was 38.8C recorded this June.

Preliminary max temperatures today. Absolutely fucken epic madness & wanking into delirium material The 42.6 °C still waits for official DWD approval but if its rejected there are still plenty of other stations with a new nationwide record. A+ means it's the station's all time record, I would guess at least half of all DWD-stations set a new record today.

Our own university weather station here in Aachen (which is at a fairly good location) recorded 40.0 °C today. And I'm especially happy that Frankfurt Airport hit 40.1 °C

The fact it's in the north of the country is amazing to me, especially considering how much warmer the cities in the South are.

Fucking Western Europe. Fucking always getting record heat, how about they just donate one of their heatwaves to Rochester. How fucking hard can that be? These places have much cooler averages than us and get heat we could never dream us. Just fuck them! I’m sick of seeing new reports every year of “record heat in Germany” “record heat in France” “40 C here” “record smashed there. So unfair that none of this fucking heat comes to Rochester!!!!!!!!!

33.5C in Bingley today as well, which is nearly two whole degrees above anything we've ever seen before.
No national record here because it maxed out at "only" 38.1C in Cambridge, but vast swathes of the eastern side of the UK from about Cambridge up to Edinburgh broke their records today :biggrin

That Germany map is a bit off, though. I will post one when I'm back at my laptop...

Convective energy over the Netherlands, Belgium, part of France, part of Germany and all of England today at 7 pm London time and 8 pm CET; quite close to levels normally seen in the American Midwest during summers! Wow, above 5,000 joules/kg near Groningen!
Unsurprisingly, there's a lot of thunder going round over the English Channel as we speak.

Its cloudy here so hopefully we will get a good storm. I'd not rule it out, but the convective energy is forecast to drop later tonight after the North Sea thunderstorm has been exhausted. London seems to be just west of the pathway of the front systems though. Looks like the coastal area between Liverpool and Carlisle might be due something though.

40.7C is the new national record for The Netherlands. 8 stations hit the magic 40 mark.
