wave photos from the beach, nyc saturday. Dorian was offshore. waves weren't huge, but water felt much more forceful than usual. Water temperature was 72, air temperature when I had first gotten there at 10 am. stood at the edge of the water and a wave splashed my shirt. felt cold in the water with the breeze. city beaches were closed to swimming but in undeveloped Fort Tilden there's no one to stop you from going in… forgot to bring my key to my bike lock (had two key rings which was dumb), so brought my bike up to the beach anad leaned against a post while I went in the water. Big wave brought water close to my bicycle. Rather empty beach some more wave photos another bicycle at the beach small observation tower, a guy had a big scope; was part of a birding group. Said he could make out dolphins earlier beautiful clear day. looking north; didn't see the skyline so detailed last time gravel path of beach vegetation the much more crowded Rockaway beaches. surfers in water, no one else in the water

long bike ride up the Hudson Valley on Sunday. followed a pack of black lycra clad cyclists; they seemed to have a strong west indian accent passed them, they were going the pace of their slowest rider. was going at a decent clip, but got very sleepy. stopped at a coffee shop in Washington Heights, Upper Manhattan. And sat there for too long, clouds discouraged me from a continuing. Giorbanguly used to live here. went for a short walk around the neighborhood; it has some steep hills! staircase someone penned a star of david on the back of the sign. opposite of swastika graffiti. another staircase view do you prefer your apartment buildings to have fake castle decor? or art deco? entrance to this one is kinda cute crossed over to New Jersey right after the sun came out. palisades above a park building NY/NJ state border on the west side of the hudson Hudson appears to have more waves than some of AJ1013 photos of Miami Atlantic Ocean beaches street vendor fair in Nyack, NY hijabi sighting at the top of Bear Mountain. My legs got sorer than I expected nice view of the Hudson part way down best part is the end. Storm King Highway through the Hudson Highlands going up; see the road? almost to the top 10 more miles, then beer and burrito in Beacon before catching the train. Ran out of battery on my phone wasn't on the forum during most of the train ride.

Mid-September in the Trollheimen mt range (ca 900 m ASL), a few years ago. Love the autumn colors at this range. Notice also the colors of the heather.

Office parking lot as of 9/19/2019: nei Crunch41Lots of trees are yellow/orange and leaf drop has began. Note that these trees are decorative and southern US species, so they are clearly turning with all the 40s and 50s at night we've had in late August and September. The native trees are only like at 5% or 10% max at home, here maybe 2%

Cool how you can see a noticeable gradient from greenish to orange on the hills. Never seen that before Nidaros

Went out into a woods right by wear I used to live to try to find mushrooms. 15th of September. Swamp. We were looking for chanterelles. Didn't find a single one. Did find one of the largest ants nests I'd ever seen though. Almost shoulder height. Not really that much foliage. More there on the north-eastern side of town compared to the central and western side where I live now though for whatever reason. Tried looking for mushrooms in another place with another friend the day after, this time in a place someone in an article once described as the coldest in Umeå. Not nearly as green. That was by the edge of the area. Further in it looked like this: At this place almost all birches were completely... tan. Not exactly orange or yellow, just brownish tint. They kinda looked like they were just weeks from being bare though, like they wouldn't get any brighter colors than that. It was 4'C cooler there than 2km away, here, within the city. (Images taken on the day before, on the 15th), and that's one of the cooler, more depressed parts of the city. Just for sense of scale, the red area is where we went to pick mushrooms where most trees were non-green, and the blue dot is where the last pictures were taken by the railway

Schneefernerhaus research station at 2650 m just below the top of Zugspitze. A DWD weather station in the foreground. Extremely blue sky up there. The glacier below Zugspitze in the morning light: The last remnants of the glacier: The atmospheric boundary layer was clearly visible above the Inn valley: This is Hohenpeißenberg, Germany's longest running weather station with continious records since 1781. Now it's an world-class observatory for atmospheric chemistry (not seen in the picture). Another weather station my professor helped to establish above Garmisch-Partenkirchen at 1250 m. Tomorrow we are going to the glacier below Großglockner, Austria's highest peak

Btw, relative humidity was between 3 and 8 % at Schneefernerhaus in the evening. It was so fucking dry I had to drink constantly. Mostly beer though

First orange leaves spotted in Grenoble (like in the top of a single tree all over the town) ^ I also had to zoom in quite a lot to catch it. Nice clouds too today, in here these seems to be quite common (much more than back to my place)
