Got to 71 (22 c) today, the warmest since the 11th. Probably the warmest until next April.
Latest last 70 since 2016 unless it happens in November (usually about half hit 70).
Next week looks chilly with lots of 40s/30s days, nothing like out west though.
Casper, WY had a high of just 8 (!) today, smashing the previous record low max. And now at only 7 PM, itβs already down to -4 which ties the newly set record low from Sunday.
For some more perspective, their average high for today is 54.

Had a -21C windchill this morning and have a forecast low of -18C for tonight, talk about a frigid end to October! Interestingly enough, I find the phase in between fall and winter to be worse than the actual winter - when it's just above freezing, colorless, and chilly, and winter looms overhead but has not yet arrived. I find that quite depressing sometimes (especially this year) but now that we've had some proper cold and snow come down this weekend I find that I'm okay with the idea of winter now and don't mind the cold. Went on a walk this morning with a -16C windchill, and although it was too windy for my liking I got used to it very quickly and am no longer dreading the coming winter temperatures like I was when we were still above freezing the last couple weeks. I don't like this type of weather either. It's usually cloudy, cold, and mostly brown. I wish it would go from fall colors to snow in the fall, and then in spring from snow to mild weather within a week or two. This is also why I don't like thaws in winter. When the snow melts, it feels like an extension of this late fall/early spring season, with brown everywhere and temperatures around freezing. I would take cold and snow cover over a thaw every time in winter. I totally agree with the first part about the transition between seasons, however our winters are so cold that I'm fine with any warmups we get, as mid-winter thaws are generally not strong enough or long lasting enough to melt all the snow or make it feel like that awkward in-between phase.

chart dump. NOWData is down, so that IowaState Mesonet site is the only available source. was surprised to hear how much more cold alex992 's nights in NoVa have been than Boston, which hasn't gone below 40Β°F all month. I think Boston has been wetter and cloudier the whole month so few chances for a big overnight drop. So NoVa right now (Dulles Airport). Starting with Dulles some cold nights later in October. cooler days in NYC except one crazy hot day in early October but UHI staves off the cold Islip mostly out of the UHI 50 miles east is a little chillier at night but the water stops real cold. one sub-40, no near freezes Boston really mild for some reason Amherst 90 miles west got a number of freezes even in early October

^ I thought the dew point map were the predicted lows at first. I thought I was going fucking nuts. Very mild this morning, 62 F (16.7 C) with a 61 F (16.1 C) dew point with drizzle. Today should be quite an interesting day with strong thunderstorms predicted and 74/39 (23.3/3.9) temps. Much cooler after today, with freezes for Friday - Sunday nights and highs in the low 50s (10-12 C range)! Speagles84 it does look indeed that we'll get hit with some of those strong storms today, though I'm expecting them more towards late afternoon and evening hours. Hopefully it'll keep the little shits from knocking on my door trick or treating, lol.

Yeah, you can also tell when the front moved here pretty clearly, we had some big wind gusts last night! w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KIAD.htmlTemps dropped by 21 F (11.7 C) and dews by 24 F (13.3 C) in three hours, it's not High Plains level of temp swings but good nonetheless. 44 F (6.7 C) with a 28 F (-2.2 C) dew point now as of 4 am, big change from yesterday!
