Second higest ever acqua alta ( en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acqua_alta ) in Venice last night, more than the 80% of the historical center (the part with the canals) was flooded. www.ansa.it/english/news/2019/11/13/venice-on-its-knees-as-floods-devastate-city_82b8e0ba-cdb4-4baa-83a6-4441dacc8585.htmlUpdate: plot containing the number of days in which the sea level in Venice was above the average level of 110 cm or more per decade. (The data cover the 1872-2018 period, so the data on the first and last decade are incomplete). Same plot, for sealevels of +120 cm on the average level Most of all this is to show the evolution of the frequency of significant floods over the city. (More or less 110-120 cm is the threshold above which the issues start, on Tuesday the level reached +187 cm).

With another 5.8β of snow yesterday, weβre now up to 14.6β (37 cm) for the month, well above average.
Today smashed the daily record low, reaching 12 (-11 c), the coldest temp ever before the 14th.
High so far is just 23 (-5 c) which would tie the daily record.
As of yesterday, the month is at a -8.2 f anomaly, today will make it even bigger.

This morning's low ended up being 19 F (-7.2 C) and today's high ended up being 37 F (2.8 C) with sunny skies and blustery north winds, awesome day.
Currently 25 F (-3.9 C) with mostly cloudy skies, with an 18 F (-7.8 C) predicted low. This has been a great November!

strange ridge, seems like it often happens when it's anomalously cold here, somewhere else is anomalously warm. Though eastern Europe's is probably connected to western Europe cold, not us. Yeah when Rossby waves are well developed, huge temperature anomalies can oftentimes be observed over the whole Northern Hemisphere. So it's likely that they are all connected. here's a current worldwide map of Rossby waves; anomalous 500 mb heights, higher than some of the tropics. looks as extreme as the polar vortex over eastern Canada /photo/1

20 F (-6.7 C) and cloudy this morning as of 5 am, I'm hoping the sky will clear up so it can cool off more (still a good two hours left of cooling off here). High of 45 F (7.2 C) predicted with mostly sunny skies today, so milder than yesterday but still well below normal for mid-November (average high is 58 F / 14.4 C right now).
It's odd. I look out my window and the sky is perfectly clear, yet the airport is recording overcast skies. What gives? It's not the first time I notice this too. I wonder if that effects the temperature observations.

Crazy cold weather in eastern Canada.
Windsor, Ontario appears to have set a new record for the earliest -10C on record (Nov 12th) followed immediately by the earliest -15C on record (Nov 13th). Montreal also set a new record low high for yesterday of -7.1C, totally destroying the previous daily record of -2.8C. They also beat their old record low of -10.5C with a new one of -13.5C.
Meanwhile Saskatoon is going through a bit of a mild spell right now. Not very often that those cities are as cold or colder than us at this time of the year.

Coldest November 1-13th ever!
Averaging 40.4/27.8 through 13 days, thatβs 9.4 f below average.
With 2.7β more snow yesterday, were up to 17.3β (44 cm) for the month. That is:
-2nd snowiest November 1-13 -Would already be the 12th snowiest November -33 times the normal snowfall for November 1-13
Highest temo in the 10-day is only 40, so it looks like some of these records could actually hold.
Coldest November was 1873 which averaged 30.7, Iβd be shocked if we beat that but the 2nd coldest is 33.3 which I think this month has a good shot at.

First snow of the year at low altitude in France today, in the southeast. About 5 cm in Lyon and 20 cm in Saint-Γtienne and Valence, a city located between Lyon and Marseille in the RhΓ΄ne valley. Quite an amount there this early, as it's a quasi-Med climate. Loads of fallen trees I imagine as most still have leaves; actually someone died from a falling tree today. Nothing in Grenoble urania93 ? Snow warnings in effect right now; should move to more northerly locations, like Burgundy:

Btw we actually had a tstorm Tuesday here. After the most catastrophic storm season ever, we get one in fucking November. A weak one, mind you, but still unexpected this time of year.

Low ended up being 17 F (-8.3 C) this morning, and today didn't quite as warm as forecast, with a high of 42 F (5.6 C), beautiful day. w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KIAD.htmlThe only complaint I have is that it was crystal clear at my house all morning this morning while Dulles had clouds, so it's possible it got ever colder at my house. FWIW, my car was marking 14 F (-10 C) around my house this morning (I know that doesn't mean shit, just interesting lol). If it had been a completely clear night we could've dropped into the low teens (-12 C to -10 C). But I can't complain much, 17 F (-8.3 C) is a very respectable effort for the first half of November and this cold snap didn't disappoint at all! Already down to 30 F (-1.1 C) at 7 pm.

Tomorrow will be the first day in 5 days that reaches freezing. That's very rare this early in the year. I can't remember this cold of weather for this long in early November. It would be normal in January. Except for the leaves still on some trees, and the lack of ice on lakes, it looks like January, too.
After today, we return to a normal November pattern of endless 30s. After tonight's low in the low 20s, the highest and lowest temperature expected for the next week is 40/27F (+4/-3C). One or two days might get some precipitation, but most will be dry and cloudy. This early winter has me ready for winter weather to continue. Normal weather is boring compared to cold and snow.

On this side if the Alps the snow line was definitively higher anyway, basically no snow below 500 m.

26 F (-3.3 C) this morning, so pretty chilly again although milder than it's been recently. Today's forecast high will be seasonably cool at 52 F (11.1 C) with sunny skies. This will be short-lived though, as tomorrow through Sunday we'll go back to highs around 40 F and lows in the 20s. I love this November.

Comparing based on 16h record, the daytime temperatures dropped 41Β°C in just after 115 days. Of course cherry-picking certain time of the day but interesting how Paris has been looked like a center of attracting both extremes.
