Tornado threat Friday night looks concerning.
Enhanced risk now for Friday, but wouldn't be surprised to see it upgraded to a moderate. Maybe even a high risk.

I was in Philadelphia today and there was a snow squall. Yesterday driving up from North Carolina, there was about 1" (2.5 cm) of snow in Maryland, but once I crossed the Chesapeake Bay there was a lot less.

NWS says 59 (15 c) on Saturday here. Last 60 in January was 2018, happens like every 4-5 years.
Yesterday had 3.5” of snow, that’s the 2nd highest daily total since mid November despite 30” falling since then. Pathetic how we can’t get any decent sized snowstorm and just tons of light snow every other day.
The first 8 days of January were 8.2 f above average, mostly due to the lows.

Some serious cold going on in Northern Canada right now! Dawson City, Yukon is currently the cold spot in the country at -45C, with no highs above -40 in the forecast until Monday (including a high of -47C for tomorrow), and lows around -49C the next two nights! Daily record lows for those nights are -51C, and the monthly record low is -58C. Makes me feel slightly better about Saskatoon "only" being in the -20s

Morningrise Yeah that ridiculous cold will start to bleed downward and eastward this weekend. Calgary should be 20-25 C below normal next Monday (the forecast has temps hovering around -30 C). Outer areas of Edmonton probably have a chance at -40 C mid next week, as does Saskatoon. Hyped.

After a relatively cold low of 9F/-13C yesterday morning, it reached 50F/10C at 7pm today, with 30mph/50kph wind gusts from the SW. Warm and damp tonight from some light rain earlier. Decent temperature variability, much better than the 40/30 days that have happened often lately (4/-1C). 9F isn't far below average, but it felt like it with how mild this month has been (11F above average, December was +7F). However, there's finally a good chance for significant snow. With only 2.8" since November 12th, and most of that coming on the 31st, a good snowfall and a stretch below freezing is long overdue. I'm excited. The early NWS forecast has Milwaukee getting 7 to 12 inches (18 to 30cm) on Saturday and Sunday. The 6-10 and 8-14 day outlooks finally have some blue (cold) over the area, instead of constant above-average.

Up to 47 now, was just 12 yesterday morning, pretty constant warming since. There was 2-3” of snow on the ground this morning, now there’s only piles.
NWS is back to saying 60 (16 c) tomorrow with 0.75-1.25” of rain.

Possibility of a derecho has been mentioned for tonight. Fortunately the hatched area for EF2+ tornadoes has been taken out with SPC's latest update for the overnight hours. Damaging winds are the primary threat.
