Still super windy today. Sustained winds have been >30 mph pretty consistently for almost 36 hours. Yesterday’s max gust was 53 mph, today’s is 48 mph so far.
Even a few weeks ago I’d have found this interesting but now it’s nearly March and I’m sick of the cold. Feels like fucking single digits f with the wind.

We got fuck all in terms of snow this morning of course, but gosh the afternoon was much windier than forecasted, with gusts up to 117 km/h (73 mph) in Paris-Montsouris. Feb 2020 was quite a windy month with: 2 days > 100 km/h 6 days > 90 km/h 16 days > 60 km/h London Heathrow for comparison
>100 km/h: 0 days
>90 km/h: 2 days
>60 km/h: 13 days
Maximum gust: 96 km/h
Milwaukee For the 1st-27th. Milwaukee gets wind, but very windy weather is not common.
>100 km/h: no >90 km/h: no >60 km/h: 3 days
Maximum gust: 71 km/h (44mph) Maximum in the past year: 95km/h, 59mph in May

Lmao, suitable that the record low of the calendar winter happened on the last day; -9.7C.
However, I wouldn't write off a colder temp happening in March, depending on the setting of course. -15C has been recorded as late as 23 March in recent years (2006), and 2013 saw -20C recorded on the 16th.

got up to the Adirondacks this afternoon; was around 17°F at the trailhead at 1:30 pm. Was cloudy started to clear up but thick clouds over some of the mountains. Weird shelf-like cloud where the cloud tops were maybe 5000 feet high? Open areas at 5000 feet were nasty with the wind, probably 8-10°F and 20-30 mph winds (windchill around -10°F). With the late start, unpacked trail with fresh snow that was hard to follow in spots, didn't make the summit I was trying to go for (Casacde Mountain). Got about 2/3rds of the way before trying around; didn't want to hike too much in the dark. Snow pack was much thinner than three weeks ago; at the trailhead around 1000 feet there was only a few inches on the ground; felt like almost no fresh snow. Must have rained recently. Fresh snow around 2000 feet and got deeper fast, with knee-deep or more drifts and lots of snow on the conifers. Still not quite as much of a winter wonderland look as previous hikes; maybe I got used to it? around 5 pm as I was descending sky was half clear but to the west, there were dark thick clouds; maybe the snow flurries alex992 reported. Nice starry sky at 6:30 but by 9 or so it had clouded over with a wind (around 5°F). Won't get as impressively cold temperatures compared to my previous trip three weeks, partly from the cloud and wind.

About the winter as a whole, it was mild but not exceptional - we would have tied the record for fewest frosts (we had 7 in the end) and broke the record for least snow (would have been trace) if it wasn't for the last week. The only record we broke that I could find was "highest lowest high", because no day failed to get above 2.9C.
A few places around the country had a completely frost-free winter: Isles of Scilly had an absolute low of 3.5C (!) I actually don't know how unusual that is, still looks hard to even get my head around though.
Camborne in Cornwall never got below 0.5C, which considering it isn't directly by the coast must mean large parts of Cornwall didn't get a frost, while special credit goes to Malin Head (the most northerly point in mainland Ireland, 55 38 N) for not going below 0.5C and to Fair Isle (tiny little island between Orkney and Shetland, 59 32 N) for their absolute low of 1.0C!
Nidaros, has anywhere in Norway further north ever had a frost-free winter? I assume if anywhere in the world can beat Fair Isle it would have to be in Norway.

This last winter, at least two stations had a frost-free winter. Furthest north was Ona at 62*51'N with record low 0.1*C in January. So yes, but it should be mentioned that both two stations recorded frost in November.
Ytterøyane (61*34*N) had a frost-free calendar year in 2015.

I took a trip up to the Adirondacks from Wednesday-Sunday, was fucking awesome Weather was 35 F and rainy when I got there Wednesday night, which is bleh but I knew snow was coming so it didn't annoy me. Thursday and Friday had moderate/heavy snow all day and temps ranging from 5-20 F or so for the two days and very windy, wind gusts up to 55 mph at times which caused whiteout conditions, solid, very wintry weather. Saturday was quite cold, temps hovering in the upper single digits and low teens all day (-13 C to -11 C) or so with on and off snow flurries/showers and quite windy. Clouds cleared by Saturday evening which led to ideal radiational cooling conditions, temp was down to -1 F at 9:30 pm when I had just had dinner and down -7 F by midnight. Temp ended up dropping to -16 F (-26.7 C) which was the temp when I woke up at 6 am on Sunday. Coldest temp I experience in 16 years and it happened in March, not bad. Temperature went up very fast on my drive back though, was -15 F in Old Forge as I was leaving, by the time I reached Watertown, NY it was already up tp 15 F, and was 28 F already driving through Syracuse, NY around 10 am. By the time I was driving through the all-famous Bunghole, temp was hovering around freezing but it dropped back below freezing driving through northern PA, then went back up to 37-40 F while driving through Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Went back down to 33-35 F while going through the highlands around Hazleton, PA, and then back to low-mid 40s while going through the Harrisburg area. Temp was up to 48 F while driving though southern PA and up to 50 F around the Chambersburg, PA area, got up to about 55 F in the Winchester, VA area, and was 50 F when I got home. Back to gay ass and lame northern VA weather, a very gay and lame 49 F at 10 am.

49 F and cloudy here, have a chance at a clap of thunder later. Hopefully we get some heavy rain and thunderstorms today, would at least be interesting.

Low was 34 F (1.1 C) this morning, today's high is going up to 54 F (12.2 C) with showers. 43 F (6.1 C) as of 8 am. The 34 F (1.1 C) at 7 am looks random as hell compared to the surrounding hours. w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KIAD.html
