We have a forecast high of -30C for tomorrow, which is extremely rare here even during severe winter cold snaps. Last February was the 4th coldest February on record and the second coldest month in my lifetime here and we still didn't have a single high under -30C, even with the two nights we had below -40.
So it'll be very interesting to see if we manage to pull off tomorrow. Personally I hope we do, because it's gonna be hideously cold anyway so we may as well get a cool weather event out of it. Wednesday and Thursday also have forecast highs of -29C so if either one ends up being a little colder than predicted we could even pull it off a second time.

...and already today's high has been upgraded to -27C hahah, which is more typical for these sorts of cold snaps.
But yes, that is very cold. Thankfully this one is fairly short lived, with highs returning to seasonal (around -10C) within a week... last year this sort of weather lasted through pretty much the entirety of February.

Ålesund at 62'N so far in January: Avg high 9.5'C, avg low 3.7'C. A chance of beating the national record for Jan, all depending on the last part of month.
Trondheim AP: 7.6'C / 0.1'C so far.

I am afraid that the current winter with such temperatures in northern Europe could lead to a cool and poor spring in north Europe.

-37C with a windchill of -51C this morning in Saskatoon, it's the coldest air temperature and windchill of the winter! Thankfully this cold snap will be over by the end of the coming weekend, the last time we got this cold was at the start of our infamous month-long deep freeze in February last year. Thankfully this one is much more short-lived (though unfortunately I get the sense we'll get another similar one in February, as we often do). 🖕🏿Mörön🖕🏿 that's damn cold for a daytime high for Vancouver! Saw a bunch of lows like that in the years I lived there but never a high, of course. Not sure I saw any highs below maybe -3C or -4C. Even the infamous 2016/17 winter wasn't that extreme in terms of highs/lows from what I remember, it was just the persistency of below-average temperatures that made it so cold.

Widespread 10C above average across large parts of northern Europe today, don't know if any records were broken but can't be far off. We had that warm air yesterday, only 11C here but close to 15C in parts of eastern England.

The record to beat in Turku was 8.5C, and and Artukainen managed 8.3C. Warmest was Hammarland Märket with 9.1C.
Fizzer, like Beerman would say.

Areas of very heavy rainfall here yesterday due to warm front influence. The airport recorded 3.07" yesterday from training storms. I got 1.58" in my gauge. It's been pretty wet across the southern states so far this month. Jackson, MS has recorded 11.36" of rain to date! January to date rainfall map.

Finland experiencing mildest winter in 100 years
With the warmer conditions set to continue, lakes in the south may remain unfrozen for the first time in centuries.
Finland’s exceptionally mild start to the new year has led to weather stations just south of Finnish Lapland in the regions of Northern Ostrobothnia and Kainuu record their highest January temperatures in one hundred years, according to Yle meteorologist Kerttu Kotakorpi.
The long-term January average at Kajaani Airport in the region of Kainuu is -11.3 degrees Celsius, but this year the recording shows -1 degrees.
This year at Oulu airport, in Northern Ostrobothnia, the record shows 0.4 degrees - compared to a previous average of -9.7 degrees.
Turku daily Turun Sanomat reported on Thursday (in Finnish) that the mild conditions may result in the lakes of southern and western Finland - as far north as Ostrobothnia - not freezing over this winter for the first time in recorded history.

The first half of January averaged 42.2/28.7, which is a full 10.4 f above average.
Despite being so far above average, it’s only good for the 10th warmest first half of January.
No ice days yet this month either. With today’s high of 37 (3 c), this is the longest January has gone without an ice day on record.
In other words, all other 147 Januaries had an ice day before the 16th. This year has not, although tomorrow will change that.
