No frost in 30 days! I had a look to see if we'd ever had a frost-free calendar month in winter before because I certainly don't remember one - we've actually had two, and oddly enough they were consecutive, December 1988 and January 1989 (plus the first 15 days of February 1989) I looked up some other really mild winters from the past and couldn't find any more frost-free spells as long as the one we've just had, so to go almost the entire winter without one is absolutely off the scale.

Even Heathrow recorded 11 frosts in the 1988/89 winter. In 2013/14 it only recorded 5.

HOLY FFUCK. St John's is reporting sustained winds at 158 km/h or 98 mph and heavy snow. Fucking nuts! Down to "only" 115km/h (71mph) at the moment. Absolutely insane! Edit: just checked, 158km/h is equal to low Category 2 hurricane winds!

Not my pic but this was an isolated cell of snow that dumped on North Vancouver earlier today. I was at work so I missed it, fuck! Wtf climate is this now anyway? Seems more like one you'd find on the east coast of a continent, at least in regard to dynamics. Ugly ass buildings though.

May finally see some decently cool temps the first part of next week, though looking like the remainder of the month could be mild and damp. Still don't see anything too warm coming up at least. Hopefully we see some sustained cold once February comes. NOAA's 3-4 week forecast looks promising.

Saskatoon's gonna be going back above average starting on Monday, with daytime highs above -10C, which will be absolutely wonderful. Come Monday we will have had 13 consecutive days without going above -10C so this will be a very welcome change.

Some of the snow totals from the NL blizzard remind me of winter storm Nemo in 2013, which was so epic that it sparked my interest in weather originally. Of course, the major difference is that we didn't have hurricane force winds to go with it. Pretty jealous. I lived close to the 33" spot in LI.

Yesterday only got to 18 (-8 c), the coldest high of the season and the first ice day in 4 weeks, that has to be close to a record.
It dropped down to 10 (-12 c) last night, the coldest temp since December 19th and the 2nd coldest temp of the season.
It looks like a few inches of snow has fallen so far and NWS says another 2-4” today. First actual decent snowfall since mid November.
