After a relatively decent end to November and start to December, the real cold has settled in for Saskatoon with highs below -10C and lows below -20C everyday in the forecast. Today may end up being our first day of the season with a high below -20C (yesterday just narrowly avoided it with a high of -19C).

Mundane weather looks to take a quick break for once over the next few days. Looks like the local mountains will finally see the first significant snowfall of the season with over 30cm(12in) possible by Friday.
Still no cold or snow in sight for us. Fingers crossed something changes by late December or early January.

A nice 'cool' spell over the past week. It's been nice not having to use AC. Very pleasant weather with low humidity (dewpoints mostly in the 10-15 C range). DMK airport got down to 16.6 C with their coolest high at 27.0 C. Downtown was somewhat warmer:

It looks like back to my village it is snowing now, with temp of -1ยฐC or so, and also that for tomorrow some weather forecasts foresees foehn wind kicking in with "temps up to 20ยฐC in the plain". It could be fun to follow this... To start, these are the temps measured over the region this morning at 9:30: There are no numbers on the map, but the color scale seems quite clear. Most of the plain and valleys bottoms are in the 0/2ยฐC range, and it progressively gets cooler as you move up on hills or mountains. Now let's see if the foehn wind predictions are right... (when this wind is involved our weather forecasts tend to be particularly unreliable...)

33 F (0.6 C) and overcast this morning, we have a good chance of icy conditions this morning with some freezing rain moving in. Kinda gross. We had an accumulating snow Wednesday morning, enough to turn everything nice and white but it wasn't much at all, I would estimate maybe about half an inch of snow. I woke up at 1 AM Wednesday morning and it was snowing pretty good, but it only snowed until like 3 AM. As of yesterday afternoon, we still had some snow in shady areas, but of course anything sun exposed melted off quickly by Wednesday afternoon. Short-term (7-day) forecast looks OK, nothing out of the ordinary. Looks like we're getting another bout of seasonably chilly weather late mid-late next week.

Oh, just in case anyone is interested, very severe thunderstorms have been hitting SE QLD lately. Brisbane received 130mm in 2 hours on the 11th and 27mm in half an hour today, and the Gold Coast received 76mm in an hour this afternoon.

It's been on the cool side here the past couple of days. Got down to 29F yesterday morning. Starting to warm up with mid 70's forecast by Sunday. Chance of severe storms with next frontal system coming Monday.

roller coaster fall in temperatures in New Hampshire. Bretton Woods at 2000 feet Mount Washington at 6300 feet is much colder but on wet days not as big a difference, also smaller diurnal range. 10-day weather underground misses the details of mountains but gets the general pattern correct. See altitude is still much colder Babu Nidaros ? NYC has much less of a drop

Continuation to This postIt looks like foehn wind really kicked just after the snow, warming quite a lot the valleys and then the plain just next to it. Today at 12:00: At 4:30 pm: My family also told me that they passed from a little bit more than 20 cm of snow to zero snow within few hours. Not too hard to believe looking at the data from the closest weather station to them (about 500 m of altitude): While this is another weather station from my valley, but at about 1000 m of altitude: (Yes, here in Grenoble the weather is too rainy and boring and so I'm trying to focus on something else).

Weather now is not bad for winter. Not exciting but very "easy", except that small roads still are slippery with partly ice.
Low last night was 3.6C, high is 5.4C, and now at 17:00 it's 4.4C. Very small diurnal range. Few clouds and a little sun the last days. A very weak sun, but it's there.
I'm using Trondheim-Ranheim, closest station not far from here, also because the AP has had missing data lately.

Quite funny to see the transition between 27ยฐC in Houston and 24ยฐC in Dallas through -3ยฐC in Kansas City to -15ยฐC in Minneapolis right now!

Under an enhanced severe risk tomorrow. I wouldn't be too surprised if I didn't get much as the last few threats failed to materialize over my area. Though some model runs have looked impressive.
