I find it impressive that our warmest and coldest Christmas happened in back-to-back years. MY EYES!
The color scheme is horrible. I have a hard time reading the text in the red lines, and it hurts my eyes to look for long. Still better than the Hot Dog Stand theme from Windows 3.1, the standard by which all color schemes should be judged.

December is now 6F above normal. No measurable precip since the 9th. The 16th had 0.2"/0.5cm snow, but only a trace of precip. It is supposed to rain most of tomorrow, though. Very warm the past week. Many days 20F above normal in Milwaukee. Full daily data
Two daily record highs broken this week: 54F/12C on the 22nd, tied with 1875 58F/14C on the 27th, old record was 51F, 7 degree change! Despite the lack of rain, it was muddy. The ground was colder than the dew point in the air, so there was heavy dew like a frosty glass on a hot day. Odd to see that in winter. Snow depth has completely flipped from 6 weeks ago. The early cold and snow brought snow cover to the southern half of Wisconsin and almost all of lower Michigan. Now those areas have no snow and the northern snowy areas have a solid blanket of snow.

big decline in Northeast snow cover here. early December: snowstorm swept through upstate & Massachusetts centered at 42°N; I remember it transitioning from little snow to almost two feet fast. After multiple cold rain storms, most snow is gone. only the Whites have a decent cover you can see more warm days in Amherst as the month went on rain happened on the warmest days; December 2-3 was a snowstorm from www.weather.gov/nerfc/snowand mesonet.agron.iastate.edu/sites/monthlysum.php?station=AHRM3&network=MA_COOP

really good weather on Mount Washington last few days; yesterday and the day before was great. Today had freezing fog then freezing rain (see the relative humidity go to 100% today) wind also picked up with the rain, rather calm with the high pressure over the Northeast this week and no major storms. down by NYC, was dry and in the 40s or even lows 50s via www.wrh.noaa.gov/mesowest/timeseries.php?sid=KMWN&num=72&banner=gmap&raw=0&w=325

I can't believe it's SoCal. southern California would be much more livable if these views happened more often 🖕🏿Mörön🖕🏿 . Looks more like the Pacific Northwest than SoCal Nice mountains. They've had a really good season for snow so far. Ugly foreground though. If only SoCal was at 50N.

Midnight temps in Scandinavia. Looks rather messy as warmer air are being drawn NE along the Norwegian coast.
Also spotted 9.8C far north in Troms.

It's never good to see 0.5 inches of ICE in a forecast. NWS forecast for the UP (Michigan). The area is under a winter weather advisory, but not a warning From www.weather.gov/mqt/winter. This page should be for anywhere in the US, just change the three letter code. List of codes is here sercc.com/nowdatamapEdit: nei pointed out a spot with over 1 inch forecast in MA. Ice storms are more common in the northeast, but 1 inch is going to cause problems for sure if that (somehow) verifies. From www.weather.gov/box/winter. I love that the scale goes up to 20 inches of ice. Just in case.

what's up with the eastern half of the US and Europe (excluding the southeast i.e. Greece, Romania etc.) being so mild this month?? Is there something up with the jet stream?

Why does it rise and drop so suddenly with no change in wind? and the dewpoint goes up significantly too.
This station is 755m asl as well, how on earth is that going to record 49C

Had a lot of rain yesterday and this morning, 0.91” total (22 mm). That was the first precipitation since the 20th, a pretty long dry streak for winter.
Got up to 50 (10 c) earlier today. Next couple days seem mild before a cold snap comes in early January.

Looking at the radar, there is lightning-active Pyro cumulus in the area, it is likely that is the reason. Heat burst or some other type of downdraft, or anomoly is the most likely cause, but it should've resulted in stronger winds? In any case, the station doesn't seem faulty at all, before or after that reading. Will be interesting what comes of this in the coming days. Just watched the channel 9 weather, that 49C was shown but under Mallacoota. Interestingly the weatherwoman didnt point it out but it was there.

Here is the 49C at Mallacoota, a town affected directly by the East Gippsland fire complex. Look at how quick the temperature rises, that's got to be related to the actual fire itself. I don't know whether this will be counted or not.
