The map hasn't been updated for a while, but it seems that meteorological winter didn't start in December in Turdku and other places in the south.

Classic UHI at night. Nothing new here... But here's the novelty... A huge UHI during the day as well!

54F as of 1 PM with DP of 28F with full sun. Areas of frost the past two mornings with temps in the 30's though above freezing.
Moisture coming back tomorrow with potential for heavy rainfall on Thursday. Maybe some severe storms depending on where the warm sector sets up.

Damn, stay safe Australia! That's some brutal stuff!
Very unremarkable in Saskatoon at the moment, it was a slightly warmer-than-average December and the first week of January is also very decent, though we're in for a proper typical winter cold snap after that. Not in the mood for much winter this year, but thankfully only two months left of serious cold, then spring will be around the corner.

A new December record for Scotland (and the whole of the UK) was provisionally set the other day as well, 18.7C in Achfary, which is almost as far north in the country as you can go. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-50961612Cassley (also in the Scottish Highlands) recorded 16.8C at 3 am, which is crazy enough in itself considering it probably won't be that warm at 3 am all through the summer.

Laurel Hill, NSW; after the fires; Batlow soon to be torched: Watchful eyes for Saturday, although not too likely that the fires will advance down this way.

There was a very potent temperature inversion for the last few days of 2019. On the 30th some locales recorded an ice day despite 925 hPa temps as high as 14ยฐC (and 10ยฐC+ @ 850 hPa)!
Proof that in winter the absence of flow means below normal temps here, no matter how mild the airmass is.

Got quite a bit of rain yesterday. 2.77" between Wednesday night and this morning. Some thunder during periods of heavier rainfall. Flash flood warnings were issued along a band to my south and east extending into MS with over 6 inches in spots.
Don't think the sun has been out since the start of the new year. Might be some clearing later today. 62F right now.

Port Arthur, TX just had their 3 wettest years in a row. 2017 was 1st, 2018 was 2nd and 2019 was 3rd. Before that, 2015 and 2016 were also top 10.
They average 60โ of rain a year, the last 3 have all had over 85โ.
Iโve seen plenty of places with their 3 hottest years in a row but never for precipitation.
