January 2020 Summary Notwithstanding the record maximum reading of 36.1° C (Cabramurra 34.0° C), this January was not nearly as anomalous as that of 2019 regarding averages; well above average, but not extremely so—this was due chiefly to the 12.6° C maximum temp on the 5th, amongst other cool days. Precipitation right on average, with precipitation days well above average. Note—I will also measure and tally snowfall depth, as you might've noticed. Only using my PWS data (via the Kestrel 5500); located upon flat grassland country astride my property:

Renmark Airport Jackoffuary 2020No climate box thanks to that cumnugget BradV, and my attempt at creating a new one didn't show in the preview. Jump off a bridge Braddles you maggot felcher Anyfuckenway, Jackoffuary was lame by Rectum standards except the last 2 days of the month. Below Average day and night, completely stormless, and fatally colder than Jan 2019. Infact, the RECORD LOW JANUARY HIGH WAS BEATEN BY 3.7C. YES, 3.7C. The last 2 days were the only highlight, with a legendary 32.2C overnight low on the 31st (neutered to 30.4C by the BOM's 9am reset) and unheard of dewpoints, exceeding 25-26C throughout SA, including here. My PWS had a dewpoint of 27.5C, my windows fogged over on the outside which is epic, and all this with rain and an outdoor scene that looked like a nuclear winter. Roxby Downs had a 30C dewpoint during a storm which looks legit. Two legendary events that just came out of nowhere during this crippled month. The 30.4C official low is 0.5C higher than the previous record at the airport, but the old town station record of 32.4C, which closed in 2010, is well and truly safe. So, to crummarise Jackoffuary 2020: -Record cold high by 3.7C -Record high 24hr low by 0.5C (for the airport station) -Dewpoints exceeding 26C on the last day -Below average overall with no fucking storms whatsoever So how do I feel about the month overall? Well, until 72 hours ago I fucking hated it. Then it gave me a legendary overnight low and legendary dewpoints none of which I ever experienced before. Bitter Sweet is perhaps the most appropriate term here. Anomolies: avg high: -1.5C avg low: -0.8C rain: -8.6C Daily obs. Those last 2 days really bumped the averages, those outliers make the overall month look noticeably less pathetic overall than it was.

January in Malta came in a little above average, mostly due to warmer nights, daytime highs were generally only a couple of degrees either side of the average. We had no really noticeable cold or warm spells, though towards the middle of the month there was a couple of cooler days & a few warmer days at the end. Sunshine was around average. The main thing of note was the lack of rainfall, we did get a couple of heavier showers in the north of the Island & on Gozo, the rest of the Island was much drier. The Met Office have not released any details as yet, but I believe it was the second driest January on record, the driest ever being in 1983 when 8.8mm was recorded at Luqa Airport. Stats from my PWS in St. Paul's Bay Av. High 16.5C (+0.4C) Av. Low 12.9C (+1.0C) Mean 14.7C (+0.7C) Highest Max 18.7C (26th) Lowest Min 8.2C (10th) Lowest Max 14.2C (13th) Highest Min 15.5C (30th) Rainfall 20.4mm (22%) Days with Rain 5 Days with Thunder 1 Sunshine 180.0hrs (102%) Max UV 3.0 (26th) Min UV 1.7 (8th)

Will do North/West Vancouver once precip data is uploaded for yesterday. Warmest high: 12.3 (31st) Warmest low: 6.6 (31st) Coldest high: -6.2 (14th) Coldest low: -8.0 (14th) Here in North Vancouver you can nearly double the rainfall (at 386mm, not counting yesterday's deluge). The snowfall was a bit more at around 40cm. Overall a very gay month, despite the awesome shot of cold and snow. Not as bad as December 2019 though.

Brilliant month! Half of the time there wasn't even a snow cover. Unfortunately the last week brought a lot of precipitation with like 40cm of snow and also some colder weather, robbing Umeå of its first ever above freezing January mean, unlike Kronoby which just barely managed to stay above freezing. Despite that though, we still managed to break the old record of -0.7'C. Temperatures compared to 1991-2020 (and the last 10 years): Average high: +4.7 (+6.0) Average low: +6.8 (+8.3) Average mean (tmax+tmin)/2: +5.8 (+7.2) Precipitation was about 170% the 61-90 average, but luckily sunshine was pretty much dead on average. Interestingly enough, November had a mean of -2.1, December -1.9 and January -0.5 this winter.

Umeå headed for a false early spring? Nah, not with the 40cm of snow we got this last week. Besides, February could be 10'C colder than this January for all we know.

We came just short of a 10ºC average high, but nevertheless made it into the top ten warmest Januaries - #7 with a mean of 41.5ºF (5.3ºC). Also the 9th snowless January on record (last one was 1989).

A reminder to everyone: Now that we're in 2020, for each month that passes, we're actually able to compare them to 1991-2020 - the next official time period. So feel free to use 91-20 instead of 91-19

Extremely boring, stable and “mild” month. One record warm day and several midnight highs made the month deceptively warm. Basically 30s on infinity loop, lack of mild days and lots of snow made it feel like a typical winter month. Felt nothing like the positive anomaly it had. Also the snow was all light snow, no good snowstorms. Average high: 37.8 (+6.1) Average low: 24.3 (+6.7) Mean: 31.1 (+6.4) Precipitation: 2.81” (+0.4”, 117%) Precipitation days: 16 Snowfall: 21.8” (-6.4”, 77%) Snow days: 13 Max snow depth: 6” on the 9th, 19th and 20th Days snow lying: 19 Highest temp: 64 on the 11th Lowest temp: 5 on the 20th Highest low: 40 on the 3rd Lowest high: 18 on the 17th Only the 17th warmest January here.
