Starting to see some green leaves coming out It's really too bad we've got a cool-down coming up this weekend, if the weather of this past week continued on we'd have everything green pretty quickly, whereas this might cause a bit of a delay.

Wow, Environment Canada is currently showing a forecast low of -8C for Toronto on Friday, that would not only break the daily record by several degrees but also the monthly record. They also have a forecast low for -5C the following day. Unreal! Even out here with our much colder average lows and higher variability this would be considered quite cold. It'll be interesting to see if this actually happens. My guess is they'll still get some exceptional cold but not quite to that level.

I guess 30C and above is pretty rare here. Or at least, not that common.

I guess 30C and above is pretty rare here. Or at least, not that common. Damn, since July 1st, 2013?! I remember that long weekend, we went over 30C on the last day of June and it was quite humid too, dew point reached 20C which hadn't happened since 1998 or something like that. I'm surprised it hasn't hit 30C again since then. I recall some fairly hot days in the couple of summers after that, but looking through the data it seems to have only gotten around 28C those years. I was living in Burnaby at the time and it's usually a few degrees hotter than YVR so that's not surprising. It'd be really interesting to see what this same statistic is like in various suburbs, I'll bet Burnaby/New West hit 30C most years at some point and don't have nearly as long of a streak.

Yeah YVR is a funny microclimate. Looks like it'll have a run on 3rd place this year. Even here on the North shore it gets warmer than YVR usually. Not as hot as Burnaby though.

Massachusetts likely breaking the observed record for May 850 mb temperatures (roughly 4500-5000 feet in the air). Obviously it must have happened before 1970, but that's still the coldest airmass in 50 years. Assuming it's as cold as forecast

Today was cool again, only teaching 53 (12 c) but it was sunny so didnโt feel bad. NWS made an unusual error with Tuesdayโs high. This clearly shows it got to 48 but the high was recorded as 46 for some reason. link
NWS shows the same observations and highs, itโs just easier to show with the IEM site. Rochester is one of the main climate stations so theyโll probably correct it but weird anyway.

Max/min yesterday was 53/42 F with some rain, and it's been in the 40s since 3pm. I rode my bike for 2h15m, total of 20 miles. Got soaking wet in the rain at 45 degrees and loved every second of it.
My next long ride will be on Saturday. The forecast max is 48F, while the normal max is 66F. Record low max is 44F for the month of May, so we won't break it but we'll come close.

Hits 30C basically every year in Metro Vancouver. YVR is a poor representation of the region during summer... frequently runs 5-10C cooler than surrounding areas just 10km away even within the city limits. Most of the eastern suburbs (see Abbotsford and Pitt Meadows stations) usually can get fairly close to 35C at least once during most summers.

Looking at Bangkok's obs never fails to make me depressed. Meanwhile here, after today, no days even reaching 20C in the forecast, even though the Gay avg high is 20.1C. Keep it rolling 2020. Can't wait to start reading about the endless record breaking heatwaves in Europe and North America. Today though was a lovely 27C, rare treat.

Quite a pleasant morning today, low was 70 F (21.1 C) and as of 10 am it's 79 F (26.1 C) with a 54 F (12.2 C) dew point. Today's high is predicted to be 85 F (29.4 C) with brilliant, sunny skies, we're gonna get dew points in the 40s (4-9 C) this afternoon! Nice.

Jesus Fucking Christ, -8 C in Toronto would be insane even for a month ago, let alone fucking May 8th. Fucking crazy. That's a lot colder than what's forecast just across the border in Buffalo.

Freeze watches and warnings all over the Eastern US, even all down to Northern Georgia! Unusual to see in May. Light blue is a freeze watch, dark blue/purple is a freeze warning.

Looks like I was right, the forecast for Toronto has changed from -8C to -4C. Still super cold though, will break the daily record if it happens and will be within about 1C of the monthly record. In other news, we now have a -5C low in the forecast for Sunday night over here, hopefully this doesn't cause too many problems with all the vegetation that's finally just starting to turn green.

We might go below freezing tonight, tomorrow or the night after. If it doesn't happen then, it probably won't before autumn.

Stupendous weather here today-it's 73ยฐF (23ยฐC) with a dewpoint of 52ยฐF (11ยฐC). It's mostly cloudy and there's a light breeze. We're supposed to get a cold front tonight, which will give us a chance of thunderstorms. Then we'll have highs in the 60s for the next several days. While that's well below normal, our record low daily highs are in the lower 50s this time of year, so they're in no danger of being broken.
