High today was 58 (14 c) after a chilly 33 (1 c) low. Most of the day was sunny before a thunderstorm came through around 4:20 PM.
The tally for days with thunder is now 2 (1 in March, 1 in May). This was the first actual thunderstorm though (the day in March just had 1 or 2 rumbles of thunder and no lightning).
Despite the cold, spring is progressing well. Cherries, Magnolias, Dogwoods and other flowering trees are in full bloom. Many maples are now leafed out although most other big trees are still bare.
The weekend will be very cold with possible snow on Saturday. It seems like temps wonโt return to slightly below average until late next week.

We've got 5 to 10 mm of rain in the forecast for tomorrow! That's more than we've had all year so far, it'll be good to get some moisture in the ground. Hopefully this will help accelerate the growth of leaves and green grass. Unfortunately we also have a night at -4C the following day and then another one at -3C after that, so I hope that doesn't cause too many issues.

I'm in the yellow area (10-25% chance of a freeze this late in the season), but damn Northern PA having areas that have a 50% chance of a freeze this late in the season. Icebox.
Philadelphia still trying to fit in with the subtropical crowd.

Canada's certainly get its fair share of late season cold overnight and tomorrow, with places from Saskatchewan to the Maritimes seeing well below average temperatures and chances of snow over the next day or so. Saskatoon has 2cm coming overnight, while Toronto and Montreal have a chance of flurries tonight and tomorrow, and Toronto has an impressive forecast low of -5C again.
The most interesting thing about this cold snap to me is how widespread it is - usually a serious event like this seems to affect one part of the country and not the other whereas tonight large swaths of both east and west are gonna feel it. BC is gonna be the warm-spot of the country over the next few days certainly.

Still in the 6ยฐโ7ยฐ C range here with sunshine, but low and very dark clouds are just about descending off the range, and I'm right in the firing line. I notice the change has just hit the SW Slopes; Hunters Hill (981 m) at 4.5ยฐ C now.
Round 2 incoming!

Yesterday (the 8th) had a high of just 42 (6 c), the coldest May high since 1989. Would have been average for mid March.
The low was 31 (-1 c), the monthโs 2nd freeze.
The air was pretty dry unfortunately so only some light flurries fell, none of which stuck. Still the first falling snow in May since 2016.

The first week of May 2020 averaged 10.5/-0.1 vs the 1991-2019 average of 11.0/0.3. The second week is going to average something like 7/-1 though, judging by the forecast...

Holy shit. It seems that Laguardia just broke its monthly record low for May. Old record was 37, just now it reached 36: w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KLGA.htmlThis still needs to be officially confirmed, because sometimes the obs can have reporting errors or whatever. JFK tied its monthly record, Islip got within 2 degrees F; other nearby stations were less impressive at 4-5 F within.
I got up early to go for a jog in this epicness.

The first 8 days here (Trondheim AP) averaged 9.1c/3.5c mean 5.9c (ca -2c below avg).
Coldest low so far is 1.6c, not that cold but more cold nights to come.
The first week of January had warmest high 13c First week of April 15.3c
All the while Oslo (94 m), not that far away, is again above average so far in May with 14.7c /3.7c
How f**** long is this shitty weather setup to last? Have been four months now Weather is completely stuck it seems. For a period, the forecast for next week would be the coldest period this time in May since 1955 if it verified (colder than half the days of January this year), but seems to be somewhat less extreme now.
We should deserve a fantastic June-Aug having "saved up" so long for a good weather setup if it just functioned that way
