whoa a freeze on Long Island but not up here?! When's the latest freeze on record there?
At Westhampton the latest freeze was 22 May 2002. The record low for June is 33F.
At Islip the latest freeze was 1 May 2008. At Laguardia, 17 April 1980. It gives you an idea of just how different the pine barrens are, compared to the rest of LI.
westhampton got colder than here in the cold blast mid-May; in a way it's more impressive of a frost hollow than Saranac Lake since it's much further south & near the ocean & no topography. this may so far

Dew point of 12C this morning, highest of the year! We also had 21.2mm of rain yesterday, more rain than we've had all year combined, and our biggest rainfall since June 22nd last year. Feels so nice to finally have some moisture again, both in the air and on the ground
This temperature outlook from the CPC should make just about everyone but Shalop happy.

High temperatures today; with 80s as far north as London. rozenn @b87

Which is amazing, as Heathrow will probably have to wait until the end of May to get close to its previous record, 687 hours set in 1990.
Yeah, I suspect the country as a whole will be record sunny this spring by a fair way but for anywhere to do it with 1/9 of the season to go is pretty insane.
Bradford still needs another 30-40 hours, we will beat the record just not annihilate it like some places might do.

Heathrow has seen 568 hours so far this spring, so it might not even match 1990s total.
Went for a drive to Rhine Falls this morning (farther east and 1,320 m AMSL); snowing nicely!

2nd straight cloudless, beautiful day. Today ended up at 73/44.
While my suburban neighborhood is like 95% leafed out now, the rural areas I drove through today still had a bunch of bare trees and not many fully leaves out ones.
NWS and TWC are both on board with 80s next week. The past few days have meant the first 3 weeks of May were only the 5th coldest on record. At least the first half of May had plenty of records so they’ll be something to show for the shittyness.

It was a dry day today but super windy. The leaves are coming out nicely between the warmer temperature and lots of rain that we've just had. Feels like a proper transition towards summer, finally!

It's weird to imagine bare trees only eleven days from June. Then again, I think there are some trees in NC that remain bare until the second week of May and stay green until mid-November, finally losing their leaves in December, and I find that odd too.
