But doesn't the air temperature need to be below 0ยฐC for freezing rain? I mean I guess if the ground or tree branches got well below 0ยฐC ice could still accumulate, but it seems unlikely. Yeah, I don't have much experience with this so it was hard to identify the type of precipitation properly. Maybe it was sleet, it was definitely mostly ice but it was quite soft. Do you think it was graupel?

Do you think it was graupel? No, it wasn't that white. The closest thing I can describe it to is sleet. Makes sense since snow fell only 15km away.

impressive temperature difference on Lake Michigan Crunch41

Cool, cloudy, drizzly day today. Mostly in the low 70s although it briefly reached a high of 77 (25 c).
Thatโs the coolest high since June 30th but still keeps the 25c + streak alive at 41 days.
3 separate periods of light rain brought a total of 0.14โ, continuing the wet start to August.
TBH, it was nice and refreshing to have a cool and cloudy day after all the heat recently. Wouldnโt want this to be common summer weather but 2-3 times a summer month would be nice provided thereโs some good heat too.

impressive temperature difference on Lake Michigan Crunch41 Interesting. The past few days have been cool here, but not because of that. Wind has been consistently from the north bringing cool air from Canada. 68/52 and partly cloudy today. Wind changes tomorrow so it should be back to high 70s and gradually warm through the weekend.
Going to the beach on a hot day in August with 40 degree water would be bizarre. I've never experienced that. Too cold to swim and it may be cold right along the beach too. I'll check the weather tomorrow to see if anywhere reports a chilly day since winds should be coming off the lake in Michigan.

High today was only 75 (24 c), the coolest since mid June.
That snaps the 25c + streak at 41 days, the 4th longest such streak on record.
The next two days will be in the high 70s but it will warm up over the weekend to near 90 again.
