An upper-level low centered over the Balkans is bringing cool and wet weather to Eastern Europe while a ridge brings warm weather to Western Europe.

It's expected to be 9-10C for most of the day tomorrow, so this should be interesting. Hopefully a taste of what is in store for the next three months.

Netweather's summer forecast is out. It has 1981, 1995, 2005 and 2007 as analogues. 1995 seems the strongest.
June Warmer and drier than average
July Average temps, possibly wetter than average
August Warmer and drier than average
Based on that, it doesn't seem as bad as it was looking last month.

I see some 30c+ highs at the end of this weekend. At the same time I see 36c for Beijing

Well Beijing, Shanghai and the rest of those damn chingers are on the mainland, while South Korea is the knob at the end of a peninsula. Think of it like Australia and Tasmania. However, that logic does not explain the exemplary heat and humidity in Tokyo compared to Seoul though.

Still some snow hanging on in the Arctic at the start of summer, 14 cm in Tromsø as of yesterday (down from over 100 cm a week and a half ago) and 38 cm in Kilpisjärvi.

This morning reached 44f (7c) at Islip which missed the monthly record for June by only 2 degrees F. w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KISP.html
Unfortunately, this is just a brief respite as lows above 60f are expected to return in a couple days.

It was melted in the morning today in Tromsø (100 m), so just did not make it to June. However, further NE at Nuvsvåg near Hammerfest, still 112 cm snow on the ground on June 1. That place is just 27 m ASL!
Now sunny and 18.5C in Tromsø. Up to 23.5C inland in Troms.

100 cm gone so quickly! Do you know when the latest Tromsø has ever had snow on the ground? I always refer to Tromsø because it's just somewhere I've heard of, is there a town higher up as well that's known for getting more snow? EDIT - Ah Nuvsvåg, I'll have to keep a lookout for that one :biggrin

In 1941, the snow in Tromsø (100 m) was melted and the ground bare on June 13th. Some oceanic place on the Finnmark coast near Honningsvåg / west of Honningsvåg (towards Hammerfest) would be my guess for the latest snowmelt at sea level.

Kjøllefjord Kjøllefjord is east of North Cape and then it gets drier, so less snowfall. I would estimate from North Cape and towards west for largest snowfall and latest snowmelt.

The wind just doesn't quit here... 45km/h (28mph) gusting to 68km/h (42mph) at the moment. I think we've literally had one day this past week that wasn't horrendously windy. Forecast is saying it's going to be rather windy tomorrow and Saturday as well.

7Storm cells exploded about 1 hour ago, deviating from the main airflow. Got lucky on this one. Ominous clouds over Paris (pic mitra etemad) And the western suburbs (pic from reno92 on Infoclimat): Small tornado in southern Île-de-France: Hailstones trying to ride the metro ... or mimick snow. Pic from korben on Infoclimat, SE suburbs: Nice amounts of water. Not as wet and widespread as the early May storms, but it's a welcome change from the endless blue dome skies!
