Norman, OK received 4.31" (109.4 mm) of rain yesterday into today. That's over 10% of our average annual rainfall. Here's a map of rainfall in Oklahoma over the past 48 hours. Byars got 8.28" (210.3 mm)! It was raining from late afternoon yesterday until early morning where we'd get a downpour followed by light rain followed by more downpour. Some parts of Norman got 2" (5 cm) hail, but I didn't see any. Around 19:45-20:30 we had about five or six lightning strikes within a mile of where I was. It calmed down after 1, but I was then awoken by thunder at 6:30. It rained some more today, but the rain was less impressive.
There was some flash flooding in town, but I didn't see any personally, beyond some large puddles on the road.

We've had a couple of very heavy rain days this past week: Meanwhile, back in ChCh they've had much more dynamic weather with a couple of days exceeding 20 C (and a few others coming close) but still managing a few hard frosts (notice the Southerly changes on the 1st and 6th, ugh): Hmmm, Wikipedia gives a record high of 38.5 C for August, so I think we were a little shy of breaking the record. Also, at the one site that past data is available for online, only April and May had mean temps over 30 C. But it's possible that the downtown sites could have had 30+ C means for every month this year, however I think at least one or two of those months would have been slightly below (coolest month at the suburban site was 28.5 C). I wish we had more comprehensive data available online here.

I wonder which site that tweet was referring to; if you find a website with past data for all stations in Bangkok, or can confirm that the tweet is wrong, please let me know.

Unfortunately, data is only available for one of the four Bkk sites, Bang Na agromet. stn.
