I meant languages of course. I haven't gone as deep as underlining genetic differences. 😀 Don't take it that seriosly please. And my common sense tells me that I am simply objectively more connected to my neighboring peoples than, for example, the Maris or the Khanty or whoever who live thousands km from here. That is why I personally have not taken all these Finno-Ugric stories very super seriously. I don't remember who, but there was one Estonian president or prime minister who said that he wasn't a f×××××× Balt. That was funny. 🙂 P.S. I just mentioned it to exaggerate différences between our climates.

I don't remember who, but there was one Estonian president or prime minister who said that he wasn't a f×××××× Balt. That was funny. 🙂 That was funny yes, but the one who said this was not me but 'our' former president. Very unpleasant and arrogant person. And you have to understand that these f ... Balt stories he said were NOT caused by the desire to bring us closer to the Finno-Ugric people, but of course, by the desire to bring us closer to the Nordic countries, ie the Germanics. Thus, these old and worn stories he told 20 years ago were part of this Scandinavian aka Germanic wannabeism. But now coming back to the topic, I hope you're not going to set the attitude "oh, my climate is so mild and I rarely get snow and frost". As you can see, this forum is always not super friendly and everything you say will be used against you. (I'm not surprised if now a bystander from somewhere further away opens some kind of thread due to this discussion. ) And don't forget that your Latvia's lowest temperature this winter has been -31c, while my "national low" has been "only" -24.6c . This where i live is the Baltics, so this is the Baltic climate, not some other, 'Uralic' or whatsoever climate. I am not an ethnic Balt, I am a Baltian, so our Finnish friend was correct. Ps, all this did not prevent that our former president from marrying a Latvian woman later. What an irony. I wonder if he hates and humiliates his Balt wife as well.

You should rate Riverside and Los Angeles, CA now for me as well, since I now spend 80% of the year out here Not bad. I like this. One question, though, what about Raleigh's climate you like and dislike based on your rating of it? The big thing that takes points away from Raleigh actually is its polar record low of -9'F, and while nowhere near as bad as up here, Raleigh still does get a somewhat cold winter. The record high of 105'F is also kind of anemic compared to what I'd like.

For somewhere that 300 ft above sea level and at 35N - that record low is a bit too cold. I'm glad you pointed out London's TRUE record low. You had people who were under the impression that London NEVER went into the single digits when that's a huge lie.

But now coming back to the topic, I hope you're not going to set the attitude "oh, my climate is so mild and I rarely get snow and frost". You have not understood me. My attitude is "the climate is very depressing here". Mentioning Balts and Finno-Ugric people was a joke. I don't care if anybody opens any thread or starts to discuss me after I leave the forum.

Yeah, for me the Maris, Komis, Mokshas etc are just Russkies who happen to speak some kind of language happening to be remotedly related to Finnish. Even Karelians if they are completely russified. The only Finnic people I have some kind of connection to are the Estonians.
That's the off-topic for me. I've already replied to the thread's question earlier, won't do it again.

The coldest temperature ever recorded in London is -16.1c (3f) at Northolt. Central London is what people must be talking about when they say it has never been into single digits in °F (record low 14f).

The closest relative to me in terms of language are/were Livonians in Latvia, who are assimilated by Latvians today. But associating climate with language is pointless. What would be the 'average' Finno-Ugric climate - the median of Tampere and Györ ? What is the 'average Balto-Slavic climate'? Would it be the median climate of the climates of Verkhoyansk, Rezekne and Belgrade?

Well, the climate is everywhere above 50 degrees N far from the perfect. Reasons do not need any additional explanation. But yammering and mourning over it will not make the climate better, it just will give those who do not like you additional opportunities. And I'm not sure if we would be happier living in Kinshasa or Mogadishu. But don't leave the forum. At least as far as the humble me is concerned, i've been friendly with you, i guess.

Sheffield has a higher record low? Are you sure? According to the numbers on Wikipedia, Sheffield's record low is 15.4'F, and London's is -2.0'F. London has gotten down to -18? Wtf where? I always thought the record low was -10c wtf...

Someone has vandalized the climate box on the main Wiki page for London a while ago though – see @b87's comment above.

Thought so because -18c does not sound possible for Southern England especially not within the Greater London urban heat island area..

Such a difference between me and my Baltic friends? We essentially have the same climate. I have to admit the list wasn't well-thought out, though I still think Võru is quite a bit better than Turku, especially in spring.

^ I'm surprised I'm in the middle of your list, would've thought South FL is a hellish climate for you.

So would I be grouped under Crunch/Jose, Nei, or Speagle84 ?

^ I'm surprised I'm in the middle of your list, would've thought South FL is a hellish climate for you. Mainly for the thunderstorms and for the potential to see cool temps as well as a noticeable lower sun season compared to hardcore tropical climates. I don't hate warm or hot climates as long as they are not very dry and have at least a short break from endless heat.

Gotcha, although I'd say our break from the heat can be quite fleeting at times, especially when mid-winter weather like this is possible (this is today, actually): w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KFXE.htmlTo be fair, we just had a very nice cold snap earlier this week, but it's comical how quickly our weather turns to shit.

So would I be grouped under Crunch/Jose, Nei, or Speagle84 ? What is your location? Saginaw? You would be better than coastal Wisconsin but worse than Amherst.
