@rg6832614 I'd definitely rank Bandung over all continental climates and also Sydney, so I suppose it would go in the same category as Jakarta/Darwin/Bangkok

More exhaustive list, though I'll only include the currently active members in here, I still probably missed a few lol Ral31 (Alexandria) Metsfan (when he's in Atlanta) TommyFL (Arundel) Myself (New Bern) Cevven + Tarlife (Raleigh area) Southathens (Athens) Srfoskey (OKC) Noodleman + Paddy (Perffff) Marcelo (Tarragona) Beercules (Renmark) Greysrigging (Darwin) /0 (Jakarta) ChesterNZ (Bangkok) Ethereal (Sydney) FairWXFan (Irvine; basing off John Wayne AP data) Wildcat (Lexington) Gior (Seoul) Steeler (Fort Collins) Metsfan/nei (when they're in NYC) Arcleo (San Luis Obispo) ilmc90 (Sussex) Tompas (Zagreb) JG/Cawfeefan (Melbourne/Scoresby) CRISPR (Ulladulla) Omegaraptor (Portland) Crunch (Milwaukee) Cheeseman (Madison) Kaleetan (Portage) Jetshnl (Winnipeg) Morningrise (Saskatoon) Cadeau/Rozenn (Gay Paree) Coolman (Seattle) Kandelsun (PEIGEI) B87 (London) FlamingGalah (Portsmouth) Gayba (Riga) Ariete (Turku) Hey Babu (Umea) Kronan (Gothenburg) MeteoMan (Sheffield) Haha are you sure you didn't misread Umea's climate box? You'd still have an avg high less than our January by mid-April. Hmmm! For an extra 300 sunshine hours not sure it's worth it. You at least have 2-3 days a year reaching 30Β°C here too.

Before I post an extensive list, I'll modify my climate rating calculator to make scores seeing as I already made one a while back. Needs editing, though, because my preferences have changed even more. It needs to work so that my current dream climate works out to a perfect score.

I've updated my post slightly, split into A/B/C/D/E/F grades instead of ranking from best to worst, I was a bit too inconsistent with latter lol. To answer your question though, given extra sunshine Umea is very slightly better than Sheffield climatically even though it's a bit colder, though that doesn't mean much.

I guess if winter doesn't matter to you the summer in Umea is slightly better for sunshine. As a comfort wanker I couldn't tolerate anthing as cold as Umea in winter by miles, I like the mild winters here. Also our way better shoulder seasons. I'd be so pissed off trying to have one of my afternoon walks in 3Β°C with snow patches lying around in mid April still lol.

Not that I like either, though IMO cold/rainy at slightly above freezing temps is worse than cold/snowy at slightly colder temps, though you're also correct in that Umea's springs are even worse than Sheffield's, I personally don't think 50s F as highs in April as warm either (then again I live in a warm climate) lol. I put more importance to summer than to winter, though for this one it's really like trading one poison for another.

I get the preference of snow over cold rain, though on the other hand, snow I find annoying as heck to walk in. Anyway, in the process of getting my list together with my scoring spreadsheet. Takes a while as I take into account lots of factors. Also going to compress my scores from A+ - F- to fit the numbering system better. Might be finished with the list late today or tomorrow.

Ratings of peoples climates. Haven't put any names on, but everyone knows where they live. I have scaled the ratings to better fit the numerical scores they achieved in my spreadsheet.

MET I'm a bit surprised you rate my own climate so highly, I thought summers were too warm for your liking the past couple of years. Or did I miss something?

MET I'm a bit surprised you rate my own climate so highly, I thought summers were too warm for your liking the past couple of years. Or did I miss something? It scores decently for having lots of comfortable months and thundery summers, thunderstorms get bonus points and I can probably acclimate to the summer temps.

I'm surprised that Madison gets a D+ and Portage gets a D-, they're nearly identical It probably happened because Portage is just below certain temp thresholds used in the scoring system in winter and Madison just above. Such differences could be eradicated if I smoothed out the numbers between temperature thresholds precisely. Otherwise there are cutoffs every certain number of degrees. Due to this simplicity, sometimes there are small inaccuracies such as this one. Most of those climates in the D range had very similar scores though.

Paris is top I assume because the summers are warmer, but then there are hotter summer climates at the bottom of your ranking?

Paris is top I assume because the summers are warmer, but then there are hotter summer climates at the bottom of your ranking? Portsmouth is much rainier with the coolest summers and seems to get the least storms and snow so itβs bad. I had thought it was wetter when I made the ranking based on FGβs summaries, it might be higher up the list now. Seattle has worse precipitation but warmer summers and can get some heavy snow. London is better than Seattle with an even precipitation pattern and more storms so itβs a significant jump. Paris is also much better for near ideal summer temps and more storms than London. I want warmer summers than London but not 32 average highs for several months, that sucks.

Portsmouth is wetter than London or Paris, with Southsea averaging 647mm but it has the fewest rain days of the lot (though the UK is currently in an unprecedented wet spell). It's also probably the sunniest once you convert its sun hours to the US method (+10-12%). Portsmouth and London have the least snow. Seattle gets the most snow. Paris gets the most thunderstorms, Seattle gets the fewest. Paris and London can get more blocked heatwaves than Seattle. Portsmouth rarely gets heatwaves at all.
