SYNOPSIS: Offshore high pressure will continue through tonight. A weak cold front will approach Friday, lingering over the area through the weekend. A much more unsettled pattern will take over early to mid next week as several waves of low pressure traverse the area. .SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 AM FRIDAY/... Organized convection associated with convectively induced short wave will cross north of the area tonight. Latest weather models keep clouds N of the region so will keep forecast mostly clear. Decent SW breeze expected all night ahead approaching cold front keeping temps warm, with lows in the mid to upper 70s F tonight. .LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... The area remains near the base of troughing to the north Friday, with W to NW downsloping flow prevail above the boundary layer. At the surface, a cold front associated with low pressure to the north will be forced toward the area by high pressure building across the to the northwest. The subsidence aloft, prefrontal WAA and compressional heating will work to bring hot and dry conditions. Current forecast with highs in the mid to upper 100s, locally approaching 110ยฐF away from the coast and dew point values mainly in the 50s after midday. Later Friday afternoon into Friday evening, the approaching cold front will bring increasing high cloud cover, which will push offshore as the surface front is now expected to push across mostโor all of the area by daybreak Saturday. However, heights aloft will begin to fall as troughing digs southwards to the northwest, and the first in what will be several waves of low pressure will develop over the area along the stalled boundary. This wave will bring the next round of storms Monday/Monday night as the boundary slides back over the area, where it will remain for the better part of next week. Developing deep layer moisture transport on the east side of the unseasonably high-amplitude trough will bring the potential for locally heavy rainfall, with the severe threat dependent on the timing and strength of the wave as it crosses the area Sunday. Monday through mid-week...Unsettled weather continues early to middle of next week as the surface boundary remains stalled over/near the area with a relatively high amplitude upper trough. The second significant wave traversing the boundary looks to impact the area late Monday into Tuesday, but timing remains uncertain at this point. Overall, expect a thundery period with persistent moisture advection; periods of severe weather concerns are not excluded as well. Temps will be near to below normal owing to cloud cover and periods of rainfall.

Caspase Valley forecast
Fine and settled weather will give way to significant snowfalls around mid week. A pool of cold air in the wake of a cold front on Tuesday will cause below average temperatures, with snow likely to remain on the ground until at least early next week.

Synopsis: Ridge flattens out briefly today which should allow for a strong west-southwest flow to take hold with plenty of sun. With sun and downsloping flow, expect temperatures well into the 90s. Late in the afternoon a cold front approaches. Should come as some widespread scattered thunderstorm activity develops off the mountains with instability and high CAPE values being generated, resulting in a slight risk for severe wx along the coast, with enhanced risk inland, the main threats being wind/lightning. Some moderate rain is expected as well, so no threat for fire wx and dry lightning. After frontal passage, cool northerly flow takes hold for a few days, then it is back to dry SE flow with the subtropical high firmly in control, and temperatures should climb to average.

SYNOPSIS: As of 10:00 AM Thursday...All precipitation has moved offshore early this morning. Fairly extensive stratocumulus has been observed across the area this morning, but should dissipate leaving us with a partly to mostly sunny sky today. Given a wet ground from over an inch of rainfall falling Wednesday, and at least some partial sunshine generating some instability, a slight chance of afternoon and early evening showers and storms are forecast. Highs today will be closer to normal after the cool cloudy Wednesday, as highs today should reach the upper 80s to lower 90s, with lows in the mid to upper 60s. Some weak mid-level shortwave energyโas depicted by the European model (ECMWF) and to a lesser extent the GFS, will produce some scattered showers/storms tomorrow and will have a low chance PoP for the region after 12Z. .LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... An upper level ridge will briefly build over the area Friday resulting in scattered coverage of and more diurnally driven convective sea breeze activity. A mid level shortwave trough will move slowly through the area Saturday into Sunday leading to scattered showers and T-storms Saturday. More substantial and persistent ridging is forecast to build over the region Sunday leading to warm, dry weather for the rest of the week.
