Synopsis: High pressure strengthens its control to the northeast of the forecast area, continuing to put the area in an anticyclonic easterly onshore flow for at least the next several days. This means seasonable, stable, and dry conditions will persist for the next few days until the southern edge of a cold front grazes the area. With a general downsloping flow for a couple of days next week and the rigde of high pressure getting back supressed to the south, above average temperatures should take hold for a couple days until the cold front clears the area. Decent CAPE and instability support marginal risk for severe wx (mainly wind impacts), though the bigger threat is enhanced fire wx as the airmass will be too dry to support significant rain, therefore dry lightning is a possibility. The quick shift back to below normal temperatures however should temper the fire threat, so no Red Flag Warning has been issued.

A fairly typical late winter/early spring pattern this week. Mild to warm and sunny conditions will quickly be replaced by cooler temperatures and thunderstorms as a cold front moves in. Heavy storms expected on the 23rd and plenty of snow on the 24th, with the potential for severe cold the following morning.

A cold front will approach the area from the northwest early next week. && .NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/... As of 1:00 PM Thursday...Quiet weather expected the next several days with hot temperatures and little in the way of significant rainfall expected as high pressure surface and aloft prevails over the area. Increasing heights aloft, minimal cloud coverage, and low level thickness forecast values support being on the high side of guidance with highs in the low to mid 100s inland today. && .SHORT TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH 6 AM FRIDAY/... As of 1:00 PM Thursday...Vertically stacked high pressure continues over the area with clear skies, and winds decoupling after sunset. Lows in the lower to mid 70s tonight. && .LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... As of 1:00 PM Thursday…Hot and dry with nonexistent precipitation chances, and little cloud cover into next week as high pressure dominates over the region. Friday through Sunday...High pressure will continue to build across the area through the weekend with broad subsidence keeping skies almost completely clear.
