Synopsis: Downsloping west-southwest winds today will be broken up by marine flow over the next couple days as Cat 2 Hurricane Gabriel tracks well offshore, posing minimal threat other than increased cloudiness, strong northeasterly breeze, rip currents, and an isolated thundershower moving in off the ocean. Flow then shifts back westerly as the storm passes, and a cold front passes thru with a slight risk for severe weather, with areas of enhanced risk inland in areas of highest CAPE. Then high pressure builds in from the northwest behind the front leading to stable, average, and comfortable conditions.

.SYNOPSIS... The remnants of a tropical low will cross north of the area today. A cold front will move through the region late tonight and early Thursday. High pressure will build in from the northwest Thursday night through Saturday with dry and cooler conditions. The high will slide offshore through early next week with late-summer heat returning. .NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/... As of 2:30 PM Wed...No changes planned. Radar shows a few showers starting to lift N into the SW tier. Expect these to increase in coverage and intensity through this afternoon and early evening as moisture and instability moves in. Combo of instability and shear could allow for scattered strong T-storms, mainly late this afternoon and evening. Prev disc...Remnants of a tropical low will pass north of the area today. Increasing southerly flow will bring increased moisture and instability across the region with scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially this afternoon and evening. Bulk shear is forecast to be modest at around 30 knots, but 0-1km helicity could peak around 150m2/s2 with moderate instability (MUCAPE values reaching 1K-1.5K kJ/kg), so a few stronger rotating storms can't be ruled out. With southerly flow expect highs in the upper 90s today, with precipitation chances increasing to 40-50% this evening. .SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM THURSDAY/... As of 2:30 PM Wed...Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will continue through early to mid evening then begin to diminish a bit late evening as instability wanes. There will cont to be a marginal severe threat early...especially the tier. The cold front trailing the remnant low is forecast to cross a bit faster with precipitation ending inland tonight and tapering off along the coast early Thursday morning. Cold-air advection will begin inland late tonight with lows dropping into the upper 60s coming along with a drop in dew points. As winds shift to northwest/north all areas Thursday, expect much cooler highs in the mid to upper 80s, and with dew points dropping into the upper 40s and lower 50s inland. && .LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/... As of 2:30 PM Wed...Mostly quiet stretch of weather with high pressure building back into the region into the weekend. Thursday Night through Saturday...High pressure builds into the region from the north behind a strong cold front. Northerly flow will provide cool and dry conditions for a stretch of comfortable weather. Highs will stay in the mid to upper 80s with dew points in the upper 40s to lower 50s. Overnight lows will drop into the low to mid 60s. Sunday into Tuesday...High pressure begins to slide off the coast Sunday, with flow becoming southwesterly again, to bring back a late-summer pattern. High temps in the afternoon will be back in the mid 90s for the weekend, and early next week.

Synopsis: What will likely be the last heatwave of the season builds in as high pressure to the south of the forecast area strengthens a downsloping west-to-southwest flow ahead of a cold front. The front comes thru mainly dry, but lightning and some light showers cannot be ruled out. With the strong westerly winds, hot temperatures, and dry brush, and possible dry lightning, Red Flag Warnings are up for much of the area as fire spread could be rapid. Fire wx threat should greatly diminish as a cooler, moister northerly flow sets in.
