Synopsis: High pressure will build into the region today, and although low level heights will rebound some after bottoming out this morning, temperatures will only recover into the mid to upper 70s F this afternoon for the region. High pressure will continue to be centered over the area this evening, and then move east overnight. Winds are expected to decouple early across most spots, and for temperatures to drop sharply after sunset into the lower to mid 50s F. The surface high will move further offshore Sunday, providing warm S/SWerly flow, which should allow the temperatures to climb to the mid to upper 80s F, possibly into the lower 90s F. An upper level shortwave move west of the area, and a warm front will lift northward through the region. Decent mid-level moisture should allow mid/high clouds to form, thus preventing temperatures from rising much above 90°F Monday. Tuesday is the hottest day in the period with dry conditions underneath subtle upper level ridging and zonal flow in the mid levels. Relatively clear skies that day should allow for highs in the upper 90s inland and upper 80s along the coastal regions, with a few triple-digit highs expected locally as well. A cold front from a low to our north should cross the area bringing chances of rain, and scattered T-storms Wednesday night, and possibly into Thursday. Guidance suggests a low developing behind the front, upping precip. chances through the end of the week. Temperatures should cool off behind the front, with highs in the low to mid 80s F for Thursday expected.

April Wrap-up
April was a very average month in terms of temperatures. The average high was equal to the 1991-2020 averages and the average minimum was only 0.4°C above average. There was little variability with temperatures remaining largely consistent within 5°C variation. However, talk of average grinds to a halt when we take a look at precipitation. Thanks mostly to the various Nkuni storms that slammed into our region at the beginning and middle of the month, rainfall was very much above average. In fact, this was the 3rd rainiest April in history as rainfall topped 260mm, only 30mm away from the record. Unsurprisingly so, sun hours were way below average for the time of year with 210 hours being recorded, over 60 hours below normal. apr 01: high 23 | low 16 | 🌧 | 25mm apr 02: high 24 | low 17 | 🌦 | 40mm apr 03: high 25 | low 17 | ⛈ | 85mm apr 04: high 22 | low 15 | 🌦 | 35mm apr 05: high 23 | low 13 | ☀️ apr 06: high 23 | low 12 | ☀️ apr 07: high 26 | low 16 | ☀️ apr 08: high 22 | low 12 | ⛅️ apr 09: high 23 | low 14 | 🌦 | 10mm apr 10: high 25 | low 15 | 🌦 | 10mm apr 11: high 25 | low 16 | ☀️ apr 12: high 25 | low 16 | ☀️ apr 13: high 26 | low 17 | ☀️ apr 14: high 28 | low 19 | 🌤 apr 15: high 28 | low 19 | 🌤 apr 16: high 25 | low 16 | 🌦 | 15mm apr 17: high 21 | low 11 | ☀️ apr 18: high 22 | low 13 | 🌤 apr 19: high 22 | low 14 | ☀️ apr 20: high 22 | low 13 | ☀️ apr 21: high 23 | low 16 | ⛈️ | 30mm apr 22: high 22 | low 17 | ⛈️ | 10mm apr 23: high 25 | low 16 | 🌤 apr 24: high 24 | low 14 | 🌤 apr 25: high 26 | low 15 | ☀️ apr 26: high 25 | low 14 | ☀️ apr 27: high 26 | low 17 | 🌤 apr 28: high 26 | low 17 | 🌤 apr 29: high 29 | low 20 | 🌤 apr 30: high 30 | low 21 | 🌤

Synopsis: High pressure will maintain control over the area from the southwest tomorrow, while an upper trough passes by to the north. This will increase the gradient; southwesterly flow will increase gradually Sunday ahead of an approaching frontal system. Consequently, highs will rise back into the upper 80s F for most inland locales. A breezy Sunday night is also expected, with gusts of up to 25-35 mph expected. Guidance in reasonable agreement that the next front will approach the area Monday and cross the forecast area in the evening, bringing an increased chance of showers. Highs will be the warmest in the forecast period, climbing into the lower to mid 90s F. High pressure should build mid-week, with highs reaching into the mid to upper 70s F.
