Synopsis: Latest analysis shows offshore high pressure extending over the area with strong ridging aloft. A typical summertime pattern expected today with high pressure offshore, and a surface trough developing to the west. The heat dome will begin to weaken and shift southward today as a cold front moves southwards. A hot day is expected today, with highs well into the 100s for the forecast area, and into the 90s for the coastal areas. Some guidance suggests a weak shortwave trough aloft will move through the area Thursday afternoon, which could allow for scattered cumuliform clouds to form late in the afternoon and early evening for the inland areas. The surface ridge will shift offshore Friday, which will be followed by a cold front moving south into the region during the day on Saturday, presenting the best chance for measurable precipitation through the forecast period. Daytime highs will be in the mid-100s Friday then fall into the upper 80s to low 90s F Saturday in response to the front's arrival, with highs in the high 70s to lower 80s F (roughly 10 degrees cooler than normal for late May). The upper trough will move northeastwards Monday, with upper ridging building back in over the area Tuesday.   |
