Raleigh, NC will probably record its mildest cool-season temperature with a low of only 22F/-5.5C. While in past years it has gotten colder than that as late as March 29, there are no signs of that level of cold in the forecast.

We're going to break our record as well unless it goes below -3.4C pretty soon, current season's best is -3.2C though that -3.4C in the 89/90 winter was actually recorded on 4th April, so there's still time and the forecast does have a lot of frosty nights in it. Fair Isle off the north coast of Scotland has still not recorded a single frost all cool season (would be first time on record), but it's certainly going to get very close this next week. Frosts per month this rather odd cool season: November - 7 December - 3 January - 1 February - 3 March - 3 so far but will almost certainly end up more

Since the station moved to the airport in 1937 the record has been 21 in 1956 and 1949.

The glorious record heat of April 11, 2020. Perth Region Records Jandakot: 39.2C beating previous record of 37.0C on April 8th 2013. +2.2C Perth Metro: 39.5C beating previous record of 37.3C on April 8th 2013. +2.2C Pearce AP: 40.7C beating previous record of 39.4C on April 8th 2013. +1.5C Swanbourne (the coast): 37.3C beating previous record 35.9C on 6th April 2005. +1.4C Perth Airport: 39.6C beating previous record 37.7C on April 8th 2013. +1.9C Rottnest Island (19.4km off the coast): 35.2C beating previous record 33.1C on April 10th 2009. +2.1C Mandurah: 30.4C nowhere near record max of 34.3C on April 12th 2009 lol get fucked Mandurah. -3.9C Pearce and Millendon (a new station which reached 40.4C) now hold the record of the only stations in the Perth Metropolitan area to reach 40C in April. Notable others: All the places that reached 40C+ in the SW land division of Western Australia. Millendon: 40.4C Pearce AP: 40.7C Gingin: 40.1C Other record breakers (just doing major or fairly important stations ): Cunderdin: 38.7C beating previous record of 38.1C on April 2nd 1972. +0.6C Bunbury: 34.6C beating previous record of 33.4C on April 12th 2009. +1.2C Collie East: 36.4C beating previous record of 34.9C on April 8th 2013. +1.5C The main centre of record breaking heat extended from around Lancelin about 100km north of Perth (unfortunately their station has daily recordings so we won't know if the record was broken until tomorrow) to around Bunbury. Anywhere north of Lancelin had near record temperatures until you go to Geraldton which was a few degrees off their record (Geraldton is about 400km north of Perth). Most if not all stations in the Perth area broke their records asides from Mandurah lol. Heat did extend all the way to the Goldfields with temperatures in the mid 30s over there, but no record breaking temps yet as the extreme heat will migrate inland tomorrow. The furthest inland location to receive record heat was Cunderdin (from what I can see), Lake Grace was 0.8C off their record and Katanning was 0.1C off tying Dalwallinu (about 200km NE of Perth) was also 0.8C off their record. Seems like the record heat stretched 100km north and 200km south of Perth, and to about 150-200km east of Perth. Here's a map of Statewide weather stations for reference. www.bom.gov.au/wa/observations/map.shtmlUpdate cos I think every station in the Perth region broke their record: Bickley: 36.5C beating previous record of 35.1C on April 8th 2013. +1.4C Garden Island: 37.1C beating previous record of 35.7C on April 8th 2013. +1.4C So every station beat their record by at least 1C EXCEPT for Mandurah which was nearly 4C below their record ahahahah

I made a list of the five coldest days this past winter. Only three had a mean of 14F/-10C or lower. This ties the record for the fewest days with 1997-1998 and 2011-2012. One of these happened in November, so the winter months were actually even milder than those record years. February was the only winter month that got colder than that November day. The average for the last 30 winters is 14 days.

New all-time record for snowfall in May!
This morning 6 cm snow was recorded on the ground at Trondheim AP Værnes! Crazy! It melted pretty fast, but still!
The old record was 2 cm of snow in May, recorded three days in total since recording began in 1946 (1955, 1996 and 2010), and there has been one day with 1 cm snow (1957). So only recorded snow on the ground in the morning 4 days since recording began in 1946. It is also the latest date with recordable snow, previous record was 11. mai 1955 (2 cm as mentioned). So this Arctic outbreak is extreme. We haven't recorded any temperature records so far, coldest low -0.3C. Yesterday's high was only 4.8C, record coldest high is 3.8C for May. Today's high 5.7C so far.

Yesterday Italy set a new record high temperature for the month of May with the 39.4°C measured near Palermo (Sicily) (source)Probably not record level, but the difference in temperature between the north and the south was quite sensible too in yesterday, this is the map with the measured highs

So this is no surprise to me.
The May 1-17th period this year is the coldest with a large margin - since at least 1891 (!) at Trondheim AP Værnes, as well as a few other places including Ålesund AP Vigra and Bodø AP.
Probably the coldest first 17 days of May since the Battle of Svolder in 1000 ... when the founder of the city was killed. In a few days however, things are expected to warm up, so the final May temps might not set a record, we'll see.

1-17th was a bit arbitrary lol, comparing the first half of the month instead would've made more sense lol. Still atrocious.

London needs to record 304 hours of sun this May, to equal the sunniest spring on record.
Current forecast looks like it'll end the month around 290 hours, so it is possible but unlikely.
