The airport weather station in St. John's, Newfoundland officially recorded 76.2cm of snow yesterday (exactly 30 inches), making it the snowiest day on record and beating the previous record (68.4cm / 26.9 inches) by a good margin.
Some other parts of Newfoundland recorded even more snow, which I'm sure was probably an all-time record for many of them as well. The top spot here goes to Mount Pearl, a suburb of St. John's, which recorded an insane 93cm of snow (36.6 inches).

Weather summary for Newfoundland issued by Environment Canada at 1:00 p.m. NST Saturday 18 January 2020.
Discussion.
A powerful January storm brought intense winds and record-breaking snowfall to parts of Newfoundland on Friday into Friday night.
A new all-time daily snowfall record was established at St. John's International Airport.
New record: 76.2 cm (January 17, 2020). Previous daily record: 68.4 cm (April 5, 1999). Records began in 1942.
The above total is applicable for the January 17 climatological day, which is a 24 hour period ending at 2:30 A.M. NST on January 18. An additional centimetre was recorded after 2:30 A.M.
The following is a preliminary summary of information received by Environment and Climate Change Canada as of 12:30 P.M. NST.
Total snowfall (in centimetres):
Mount Pearl: 93 Paradise: 91 St. John's East: 82 St. John's International Airport: 77 Lethbridge: 48 Gander West: 35 Gander International Airport: 34 St. Lawrence: 31

At St. John's International Airport the official wind sensor malfunctioned during the storm. Reported winds were estimated to be between 65 and 85 knots (120 to 157 km/h). However, it will likely not be possible to provide a verified maximum gust.
The wind sensor at Gander International Airport also briefly malfunctioned. The highest gust at the nearby Gander climate station was measured as reaching 97 km/h.

Wettest January on record for Melbourne Airport. Old record was 101.6mm in Jan 1991, and we had 101.8mm this January. So we JUST beat it.

Unprecedented broad-scale of warm anomaly happening in the Siberia explains the streak of record warm January temperatures in South Korea & Japan. Incredibly large area with huge positive anomaly! Warmest January ever recorded in Oslo & Trondheim. Must have been below avg some areas for this to add up, even with the underlying warming. Svalbard had a cold Jan compared to recent years and Alaska seemed cold. Map shows northern Africa somewhat below avg.

Some of the records broken in Sweden this January. Up until the 31st, 71 stations in Sweden were looking at a new record (SMHI haven't yet updated the figures with the final day added though, so it could turn out to be less). All these means are using the SMHI method.
Both Väderöarna (58.6'N) and Måseskär (58.1'N) broke the old national record of 5.9'C previously held by Väderöarna, with the new record being 6.1'C.
Stockholm shattered its previous record of 3.2'C by 0.9'C with the 4.1'C mean this January. Gothenburg marginally broke its old record of 5.6'C with this year's 5.7'C Malmö broke its old 4.8'C record with this year's 5.2'C Falsterbo managed to get to 5.4'C, beating its old record of 5.1'C Lund shattered its old record of 4.2'C by 0.8'C as it got 5.0'C this year Northern Sweden's old record of 2.7'C from Gävle was broken by many stations, the warmest being Kuggören at 3.5'C. Mid-Sweden's record of 3.9'C held by Högsjö, also got shattered by Örebro with their 4.6'C, with their previous record being 3.6'C. The largest shattering of a record was in Mora in central Sweden and Örskär central-eastern Sweden, breaking their old records of 0.2'C and 1.7'C respectively by 1.7'C with new records of 1.9'C and 3.4'C.
The warmest daily mean record of 10.0'C was broken by Oskarshamn and Gladhammar at 10.6'C and 10.1'C respectively, two summer days according to SMHI. What's even more funny about that is that the high and low in Gladhammar were only 12.0/4.2. Summer indeed.

Kökar Bogskär broke the national record with a 4.6C mean in January, previously held by IDK. Parainen Utö, public records since 1959, recorded their first January without having an air frost. They had a mean of 4.4C, beating January 1930 by 1.4C. Nationwide it was the warmest January by far. Deviations from normal:

This was also the first time in History when Helsinki Kaisaniemi didn't see any snow. January 1930 had one snowfall with a 1 cm snowdeffffff.

In Norway, Lindesnes recorded mean 6.6*C (7.8*C/5*C). Previous warmest January mean in Norway was 6.4*C. New all-time high 19*C at Sunndalsøra on Jan 2th.
New all-time warmest 24-hr mean in January also, and it seems 14.3*C at Åndalsnes on the 2th is the warmest.

35 mm of rain yesterday so that takes our total to 235.2 mm so far, which is already a record for February with over a week to go. Not far from the record for any month of 257 mm now.
It's also already the first month ever where Bingley has had more than three times its average rainfall.

Storm Dennis was the 2nd strongest extratropical storm ever recorded in the northern Atlantic. It had a central pressure of 920 mb, beaten only by the Braer storm of January 1993 (913 mb).
