Jimmy now has the appearance record.  I've always been surprised by how many tests Cook played. A 12 year career isn't unprecedented, although opening the batting every game throughout that entire period obviously is. He was retired from international cricket by 33. Obviously just a very heavy workload. |

So basically England's entire squad had to self isolate due to Covid exposure, they put out the 2nd string and still hammered Pakistan. Are Pakistan really that bad now? Sri Lanka were even worse in the series just gone.
Seems like the depth in international cricket is worsening. The only decent sides at the moment seem to be India, Australia, NZ & England.

This may be the worst English batting lineup I've ever seen, yet the game was still there to be won at the start of the day. Root is an amazing batsmen, but a lousy captain.

We need to calm down, surely you've learned by now that this side could blow it from any position. First day was probably the best day of cricket that England have played for a very, very long time. The takeaway so far is that Anderson is the best pace bowler in the world, at 39. Root is clearly the best test batsman in the world on current form, by a country mile. Rest of the team are hit and miss, injuries being a problem ofc. |
