I actually don't like these test matches where ball dominates bat, like it has so far this test. It's almost certain that it will be over tomorrow.

Well, that's the ashes won. Didn't think you guys would fold so quickly, now I don't know what to do for the next couple of days.

Chris Silverwood said there's plenty of positives and he wouldn't have done anything differently.

I'm hoping you finish the job and win 5-0, it's the only way to ensure that heads will roll at the ECB. If they win a test they'll wriggle out of accountability with the robotic PR that's infected the leadership. It was a "brave performance", "a positive development", "proof that our long-term plan is bearing fruit", "a stepping stone towards victory in the next series". Ohhhh fuck off you plonkers.

That team would have scored 700 runs by lunch on day 1, then the Queen would take 10-0, twice.

There is obviously a fair bit of argy bargy going on off field. The Tour itself was in doubt due to the Covid debacle, and it seems the entire playing group was/is woefully underdone re match practice. Back in the day, Ashes touring teams would play at least 3 first class games against full strength Sheffield Shield State teams, before the 1st Test. Nowadays, with the plethora of white ball cricket, Tours are squeezed into a smaller timeframe, meaning players cant find form outside of the test matches.

Picture of the greatest Australian bowler of all time, seen here standing next to Shane Warne.

Oh well. Cricket isn't a proper sport anyway. Just a load of chubby blokes that weren't athletic enough to play proper sports...😉

Nowadays, with the plethora of white ball cricket, Tours are squeezed into a smaller timeframe, meaning players cant find form outside of the test matches. England have had plenty of international cricket this year, albeit not in Australian conditions, but the problem is more deep rooted. In England, the County Championship has been pushed aside to the start and end of the domestic season, when the weather is bad and the crowds are small. The best summer months are now set aside for bish bash limited over cricket, because that's where the money's at. As a result, the county scene, where test players are developed, is full of batsmen who simply don't have the technique for international test cricket. There was nobody waiting in the wings ready to come in and replace out of form batsmen, because nobody can.

The stats from a record-breaking year, but not the good kind of records. Unless you're Joe Root, who has averaged over 60, no batsman has ever been this far ahead of his teammates, mostly on account of his teammates batting like one-armed blind children. The next best batter was Burns, averaging only 27, scoring 3.22x less runs than Root. - No team has ever lost more Tests in a calendar year than the nine defeats suffered by England in 2021.
- England have been bowled out for under 150 a joint-record eight times this year.
- Joe Root is the only England player who has averaged more with the bat in 2021 than 2020.
- England still have only two players who have posted half-centuries in this Ashes.
- Only three of England's 15 Tests this year did not feature a duck by one of their openers. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/59825697

Surprising that Boycott loves T20 and wants test matches reduced to 4 days.
