Which British Island do you think has a more preferable Climate: Orkney: The Falklands: For me, The Falklands. At least I might get snow in the winter, even though summer doesn't seem to exist in either place. Orkney is objectively worse for cold rain. Still, why the British fought to maintain control of such a crummery climate is beyond me. Margret Tatcher must have really liked crummers.

I'd rather jump off a 100-story building before living in any of those climates.

Falklands, just to keep the pattern going.
Although it is the better choice, both are bad so I'll choose the one with what looks like it has decent snow potential in winter.

Some old met bloke on netweather lived in the Falklands and said it felt considerably warmer in summer than a place in Wales where he lived - interesting. He said the sun was very strong compared to in the UK.
Also, we are seeing outdated averages for the Falklands here. But, I would choose Orkney for the milder winters.

Orkney because it’s warmer. Much more cold rain though, and by a very big margin. Falklands for me I guess - sunshine wins this one. Too cold to grow trees is a big problem to me.

Falklands, easily. Pretty sure most of the wintertime precip would fall as snow.

¡MALVINAS ARGENTINAS! No but seriously, Orkney is better for slightly warmer winters as well as its Mediterranean precip pattern. Winters aren't too harsh though in either of these climates, pretty similar feel to the winters here, I'd imagine. On the other hand, with extreme crummers, neither climate here is above an E grade. E for Orkney and E- for Malvinas.

The Falklands are a legal British territory, always have been, always will be. The Argentine claim is as valid as Canada making a claim on Vermont because it happens to be closer to Ottawa than to DC.

What does Marcelo have to say on this matter?
I don’t know what to vote, as both have awful climates. I guess I’d go for the Falklands for the higher sun hours and snow.
Respect to the name, I have no problems in calling them Falklands if I’m speaking in English, in the same way I’d say Germany instead of Alemania or Deutschland.
About the Argentinian territorial claim, I think it’s strong, yet I don’t either disregard the sense of identity of their inhabitants nor I personally find the claim as fundamentally important. It’s just one of the numerous unsettled issues caused by old conflicts from times when borders were poorly defined and faraway lands were poorly mapped, but almost forever frozen after one of the most senseless wars. Anyway, the British did all wrong those times; instead of capturing Buenos Aires (failed twice + blocked La Plata River once, I guess they were never really focused), they somewhat thought that seizing a godforsaken archipelago would be a good geopolitical move. If they had been committed to set up a country in Southern South America, the whole Antarctica would be a Commonwealth realm by now. Britain had very close relationships with Buenos Aires back then, it wouldn’t have taken a monumental effort to achieve that. Heck, even British expeditions to the Southern Ocean and whaling campaigns would usually start off in Buenos Aires a century ago.

Falklands for getting more cold frontal precip.
And yes—the Falklands belong to the Crown.

Malvinas might not seem so important geopolitically currently, but in the far future (100+ years from now) with a warming Antarctica will come a push to settle and colonise the new land. It is in the best interests for Britain to maintain a presence there, I get it. I was kind of just joking with the "Malvinas Argentinas" thing, although the Spanish (thus Argentine) claim was established first and thus is more legitimate. I'd prefer them belong to Argentina but if the 2 countries can collaborate on Antarctic colonisation one day in order to keep China and Russia out of the Antarctic, then I'm for them remaining British. Ideally they would belong to Argentina and Argentina would allow Britain to maintain an RAF base there for free. That arrangement would benefit both Argentina and the UK. I'm gonna call them Malvinas though, because I'm a native Spanish speaker.
