The sky just cleared and in no time fog rolled in where I am in rural SW France. Indeed, here's the soil moisture content compared to normal, last year vs this year. Awesome stuff:

Decent temperature drop. There was a thunderstorm in the area but I guess it occurred between the hourly update. Now it's down to 68 F/20 C at 8:00PM.

The thicker smoke was back today after having been relatively minimal the past week or so. Hopefully it doesn't stick around. Most of the week is going to go above 30C and I'd rather be able to open my windows during the cooler moments of the day.

Rather hot in the Balkans, Greece and western Turkey yesterday. A cold northwestern Europe and a hot eastern Med & the Balkans will be the theme for the next week; temps above 110°F are looking likely locally this weekend, and early next week.

Apart from January, this year has been remarkable dry in the southern part of Öland island so far!

Life threatening flooding in Southern Arizona after the wettest July in history. This is near where my family lives in Nogales
With the destruction however there is also beauty. It’s a rare sight to see the Tanque Verde falls flow like this:

A storm is coming! NWS has my area in the "Moderate" risk for severe weather tonight. That's level 4 of 5. The main risk seems to be high wind gusts. Further north there is a chance for large hail. The forecast graphic just says "Severe thunderstorms". 2 to 3 inches of rain would bring the month back to normal. Only 0.96" (24mm) so far which mostly fell in one storm. Hourly forecast has the storms peaking around 2am. I've never seen this screen before but the NWS linked it on the homepage (weather.gov/mkx). This has the storms coming earlier, around 10pm, with a 47% chance of...wind? It must mean 47% chance of a severe wind gust which is 58 mph / 93kph. Maybe some hail or a tornado also.

Well we're going to miss hitting 30.0C as our average high for the month but it looks like we'll be at or above 29.5C which is pretty incredible.
We're at 20 days with highs above 30C this year and we have another five in our weekly forecast so we'll almost certainly be hitting more than double our yearly average of 13.1 days this year, and we've had an addition five days above 29.5C that just missed the 30.0C mark.
We've also had five days above 35C this summer versus an average of 1.3 per year. Probably won't get any more of those, but who knows.
So all-in-all it's been a very warm summer and that seems to be continuing for the moment.

0.08” (2 mm) fell this morning with another shower starting now.
This makes today the 20th day this month with precipitation and the 17th day >1 mm. Both of these are new July records!
Using the solar radiation method, July is still only at 165 sun hours which is a pathetic 40% of possible. I don’t mind, and even like, this level of cloudiness in winter but in summer it can fuck off. Although temps have mostly been warm, all the clouds and rain have made this month feel very crummery.

I looked up July for some previous years and they get large temperature changes often. A high of 30 followed by 18 is common.
Here's some sustained winter warmth with a 3C morning in between.

Got a decent downpour going right, it's about time! We've only had 7.7mm of rain this month and much of the grass in town is parched and yellow (which is highly unusual). I don't think this rain will ultimately add up to all that much, but every little bit helps.
The storm that's bringing the rain seems to be missing us though, I hear thunder in the distance but no lightning visible despite the rain.
Also, we apparently have 28 km/h winds with gusts going to 84 km/h right now, highest spread I've ever seen by far.

After a humid week, cool front has arrived, beautiful weekend upcoming. Northern PA will struggle to leave the mid 60s, where the SE will have pleasantly warm but low humidity - mid 80s. Highs in the mid-upper 70s here

We officially got 10mm of rain yesterday in our little evening downpour, that was nice! Also had a high of 33.8C which now brings our average high for the month up to 29.7C! We're supposed to hit 31C today and tomorrow (and we've been exceeding our forecast high a fair amount lately), could we maybe sneak in a 30.0C average high for July after all?!
